We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Helena Paschal a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am an author, speaker, and coach and when the pandemic hit, I was not able to travel and it wiped out my business. I had to start over.
In 2021, I started my life over with $43, my daughter, and my laptop and I moved to Houston. When I applied for places to live, I kept getting denied and I pleaded with the realtor broker and property owner to give me a chance because I had a solid history of making consistent money as an entrepreneur. The next day, they called me and told me to meet them at the house to sign my lease and get the keys. After I signed the lease, I asked why did they approve me? In unison, the broker and property owner said, “We Googled you!” They said I looked like I would be a trustworthy tenant.
When my credibility on Google proved to be more valuable than my own credit, I decided to start a personal branding agency to build brands and teach professionals how a brand can change your life. I now have all my books and classes online and I’m helping others do the same. Doing so, has given me the freedom to finally be debt-free!
What should our readers know about your work?
I can turn a college degree into passive streams of income with a personal brand. I turned my degree into a business, books, and online classes. I build personal brands for professionals, consultants, and coaches to position them as authorities in their industry. My work starts with a LinkedIn makeover to optimize their profile with targeted keywords to increase their visibility to attract their ideal audience.
After I give them a LinkedIn makeover, I create their website, logo, marketing video reel, speaker kit, and any promotional material to pitch them to the media to increase their exposure and build their name recognition.
Once their personal brand is setup, I manage it and book speaking engagements for them and turn their speeches into eBooks and online classes to create passive streams of income for them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I host an annual women’s retreat called “Pink Champagne” in October, and I plan to take my guests to the Post Oak Hotel at Bloom & Bee. It’s my favorite brunch spot. I also love Taste Bar+Kitchen for brunch. For fun, I enjoy FAO for great drinks and games. Of course, the Galleria Mall is a great destination for visitors.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to my photographer and friend, Elisha Akram. Most of my images on Google were taken by her and I would not get the opportunities that I have if it weren’t for her.
