Meet James Cartha | Owner of the brand Gussy St

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Cartha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had been hearing from family, friends and co-workers for years that I should be doing something as far as creating my own brand. They all would come to me for advice or my opinion on fashion. After a while I started to look at all the brands I had been supporting over the years and thought why don’t I just create my own. Now we have Gussy St.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from all of the other brands is we are Gussy St over here.

This brand is about empowerment. The brand is literally about making people feel good and motivated to win with style. I’m most proud of the brand going around the world. Seeing someone wearing your brand in another country is a beautiful feeling. I made it this far professionally by not giving up when the chips were down and the support was slow. I had to believe in it 100 percent when others didn’t. I wear my brand everyday because I like it and the whole world will eventually. Some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to do your research before you invest your money, and never chase a potential buyer. I’ve been scammed out of money. I let people fall in with the brand naturally. I don’t force it on no one. I want the world to know that Gussy St will only get better. They will not want to miss this train.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So basically Houston is the hottest city in the country. I could go on and on but I’ll give a few. Restaurants would be Papadeauxs and Turkey Leg Hut. These are 2 of the hottest restaurants in the city. The Post is a place combined with food, shopping and entertainment. One of the highlights of this place is the roof top view of downtown. The Galleria is one of the places to go if you’re looking for something to wear or just walk around people having fun. Not to mention, there is an ice skating rink in the center of the mall if that’s your thing. If I had to take them out at night I would most definitely take them to Bar 5015. This is a sports bar that has provided the city with so many concerts with rnb and hip hop legends. The atmosphere is fun and safe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shout out to Allah and my ancestors first. Without that energy and guidance nothing is possible. Next is my wife and kids. I do all what I do ultimately for them. Lastly is my family, friends and supporters of the brand. They are the ones that confirm to the world that Gussy St is the hottest upcoming clothing/lifestyle brand. Without them the brand is nothing.
