We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmyn Ray-Maynard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazmyn, what principle do you value most?
A core principle for my business to make the client feel beautiful, powerful, and confident while delivering to them a high quality product.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started studying photography under local photographer here in dallas about 11 years ago. I spent four years training with her learning traditional techniques, skills, and styles. As many artists and creatives do I got wrapped up studying another medium and fell in love with dancing! Dance led to modeling which equipment me with a unique skill set as a photographer since I have spent time on both sides of the lens! After becoming a manager of a dance studio, I needed content for our social media and website so I decided to pick back up my camera! That year Jraymayphotography was born! As a photographer and model, I make sure the clients get proper model coaching during the shoots ensuring they get imaged they are proud of! I have shot for magazines, Hilton hotels, boutiques, agencies, and weddings. Most recently I have been focusing on defining my custom Jraymay shooting style which features a sultry, grungy, glamorous aesthetic! My biggest advice I would give to any other creator is to always keep your mind open because you never know where your creativity will take you! Also networking is EVERYTHING the art world is small!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My top places to visit in Houston would be NASA of course! A fun day at Kemah Boardwalk (make sure to get some funnelcake!) Baybrook Mall for some shopping Lastly go on a cruise! You are so close to the golf of mexico you might as well go on an adventure.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out Jasmine and Devan Carter of Vuestra Studios! They allowed me a larger platform on which I could grow my photography, styling, modeling, and creative directing. The studio they owned in Denton was the space in which my shooting style truly developed further. Being able work with several different teams of photographers, models, and C.Ds I was able to explore and blossom into the photographer I am today!
