We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazzlin Raquel And Diamonds Davis N/ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazzlin Raquel and Diamonds Davis, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Jazzlin Raquel
Starting Raqn Diamonds wasn’t just about dance—it was about creating a safe space where young girls could not only learn technique but also build their self-esteem and discover their potential. When I first envisioned Raqn Diamonds, I thought about my journey and how much I gained from the arts beyond just the physical skills. Dance taught me resilience, teamwork, and the confidence to take on challenges, but it was missing a piece of the puzzle: empowerment outside the studio. I wanted to create an experience that would help young dancers become well-rounded individuals, nurturing not only their talent but also their mindset.

The idea of incorporating entrepreneurship and life skills into the curriculum came naturally. I wanted to give these young girls something more, a toolkit they could carry with them into adulthood. By helping them find their voice, set goals, and understand the power of their presence, I hoped to prepare them for whatever dreams they wanted to chase. It’s not just about creating great performers; it’s about raising confident leaders who shine in and outside of the spotlight.

At the end of the day, Raqn Diamonds is about creating a community that supports each dancer’s growth, on and off the stage. Watching the transformation in these young girls, seeing them find their confidence, and hearing them talk about their future aspirations is what keeps me motivated every day.

My thought process came from my own experiences in school, where I realized there were very few programs or activities specifically for young Black girls. I wanted to create a space where these girls could not only have fun but also feel seen and supported. Growing up, I often wished there was a place where we could just be ourselves, express our creativity, and connect with others who shared the same experiences. That vision became the heart of why I wanted to be a part of this business.

For me, it’s not just about teaching dance moves or perfecting routines. It’s about helping these girls build confidence, develop discipline, and find a sense of structure that will serve them throughout their lives. I wanted them to walk away with more than just technical skills—I wanted them to feel empowered and prepared to take on whatever life throws at them. Knowing that I can play a small part in helping them grow into strong, self-assured young women is what drives me every day.

At the end of the day, creating this space is all about fostering a community where these young girls can thrive, find their voice, and embrace all the beautiful things that make them who they are.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets Raqn Diamonds apart is that we’re not just teaching dance—we’re developing leaders, building confidence, and creating a space where young girls can truly thrive. We combine dance, baton twirling, and even entrepreneurship skills to help our dancers become well-rounded individuals. We want our girls to feel like they belong and are supported, while still pushing themselves to grow and reach new heights. Watching their transformation is what I’m most proud of. Seeing them start with uncertainty and then blossom into strong, confident performers and young women.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. There were moments when it felt like I was taking on too much or facing hurdles I hadn’t anticipated. The hardest part was managing self-doubt—wondering if I was equipped to lead and inspire. But every challenge became an opportunity to learn and grow. I overcame those obstacles by leaning on my faith, staying committed to the mission, and constantly reminding myself of why I started. I learned that it’s okay to ask for help and to embrace the journey, mistakes and all.
Along the way, I’ve learned that persistence is key, and being open to feedback is essential. It’s also crucial to stay true to your vision, even if the path looks different from what you expected. It’s important to find a balance between pushing yourself and giving yourself grace when things get tough.

What we want the world to know about Raqn Diamonds is that it’s more than a dance team; we’re cultivating a new generation of confident, creative, and ambitious young women who understand their value and potential. My goal isn’t just to train great dancers, but to equip these girls with skills and self-belief that will take them far beyond the stage. At the heart of our brand is the idea that every girl has a unique shine, and it’s our mission to help them embrace it fully.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Jazzlin Raquel Itinerary:

If my best friend came to visit, I’d take them on an unforgettable road trip to Austin! We’d start by heading straight to Lake Travis for some adventure. I’d rent out a boat for the day, invite a few close friends, and we’d spend the day on the lake—swimming, jumping in, and soaking up the sun. There’s something so freeing about being on the water, and it’s the perfect way to kick off the trip.

After a day of adventure, we’d wind down with a laid-back game night, with good food and plenty of laughs. In Austin, the vibe is all about having a good time, so we’d make sure to hit up Sixth Street for a night of live music, bar-hopping, and dancing.

To wrap the weekend up, we’d end with a relaxing day at Barton Springs before heading back to Houston. It’d be the perfect balance of adventure, fun, and chill moments with my friends and creating ever lasting memories.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to give a huge shoutout to Coach Dorris Keener, the owner of DK High Steppers. Coach Dorris has over 20 years of experience in twirling and is certified as a professional instructor by the United States Twirling Association. Not only has she led and instructed the City of Houston Twirling Team, but her professional staff at DK High Steppers has also trained students and sponsored camps at several schools and universities throughout the area.

When I was getting started with Raqn Diamonds, Coach Dorris was an invaluable mentor. She shared her wisdom, her experience, and most importantly, her encouragement. She truly empowered us and passed the torch, helping us get Raqn Diamonds off the ground. Her guidance gave us the confidence to create something meaningful for young dancers, and we’re so grateful for her belief in us and her dedication to the twirling community.
