We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeffery “JJ” Bolton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeffery “JJ”, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’m a huge fan of videography weather thats with sports or film. Superhero/comic book properties played a big part in that along with decades worth of playing soccer & enjoying sports. I figured after a few years of learning / teaching myself how to expand in these things would result in being my own boss & continue to build from there.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently a Sports Videographer – I record full games, I can create highlight videos for recruiting purposes for athletes who want to be at the next level. It took 3 yrs of working for VYPE Houston as a filmer. That experience has been so important. I also have recorded debates at Rice University, some music videos & other small promotionals!
But overall? I’m an aspiring filmmaker. I think what sets me apart is I’m not afraid to try something new, or explore something others wont. When creating my first script I hit a road bump in realizing.. “How did we get here?” So years later that first script will now be our sequel :). I want the world to know that I am a passionate & creative writer/filmer that has loads of knowledge but room for more. I want to represent young creatives in doing cool things with cool people all around Houston.
I’ve learned to be patient & that things can change very fast. Also, that sometimes moving on from certain things/people in this “world” is sometimes better for your main goal/project as a whole!
I look forward to releasing these projects in the New Year & see where we go next.
I also wanted to say S/O to the casts of our Arrow & Wild Dog projects. They all deserve their flowers. Some I’ve met this year some are long time friends. But I am excited to see whats in store & the final product!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Pitch 25 Beer Garden.. I have played soccer since I could walk so I was there opening day when the last World Cup began. Met the owner & former Dynamo star Brian Ching along with US Soccer Landon Donovan. So its always been a great spot to enjoy the sport I love & be around those that do as well.
Sunset Rooftop Bar – Great view, always good music playing, & the drinks don’t disappoint.
Museum District as well. I love art, and science.
I’d additonally throw in local soccer fields as thats always been my place away from everything where I can just relax & think things out on my own.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, older brother & other family members deserve a huge shout! They’ve sent me Tripods to use for my work, Spread it on Youtube & other social platforms. Couldn’t ask for better support.
I have a HUGE friend group when it comes to filming & creative stuff but the big 3 I’d have to shout out are Evan Roderman, Sonny Anderson & Michael Dunn. Together we’ve crafted a unique group called “Minority Geeks” which we expand on stories that “go against the grain” or “ask new questions” from our audiences. Weather thats race bending/gender bending people favorite characters.. We want everyone to feel & be represented. “For the fans, from the fans”
Lastly? Man, how could I not shout out one of my favorite directors Zack Snyder?! The man is a walking legend. We’ve been working on our Sounds of Danger Fan Film for 4 yrs now.. and if you recently saw/heard the new Justice League film you’d know he went through heaven & hell to get it released his way. So not only is he a genius filmmaker with an art history degree but he never quits. Which has pushed me & us to learn patience & never give up.
Overall there’s so many people who’ve supported me, reccomended me for work, & I am so thankful for it all
