We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerald Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerald, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
My faith in God and His undeniable grit instilled in me to not ever give up are the two factors I deem most important behind my success. I was thrown off a freeway, legged nearly ripped off my body, lost 9 pints of blood, shattered my whole left arm and wasn’t found for 3 hours. It was my strong faith and grit that allowed me to wake up in ICU with jokes and determination. This is what I bring into my businesses and my brand. There will always be a challenge. There will always be an obstacle. However, no matter what’s thrown at me, I will always prevail! There is nothing God said I couldn’t handle or endure with Him on my side. That and a lot of stubbornness lol..
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently I am an Inspirational Speaker, Trader, Network Marketer and Entrepreneur. Never in my life did I think I would embark on these endeavors lol. I grew up wanting to be a professional basketball player, yet always had this passion for people and helping others. Went to school, played some semi pro basketball, then fell into the working community. I was hired for a pretty known company that I hated but i worked my butt off up to 18 hours a day 6 days a week. However I loved the people i worked with. But it was 2017 when i lost everything in Hurricane Harvey and was homeless for about three months. Then in 2018 (October 24, 2018), i was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident. I was thrown off of the freeway while my bike was approximately 300 yards away in the opposite direction still on the freeway. I wasn’t found for up to three and a half hours and lost 9 pints of blood. The incident also resulted in me losing my right leg above knee, a fracture in my right wrist and a shattered left arm where I had to receive an 8 to 10 inch rod with 9 screws. And this was the significant part of my life that propelled me into my career today. I AM NOW FOCUSED ON USING MY TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE TO INSPIRE OTHERS IN LIFE. There are many people in my community and around the world that can benefit from what I have been through. So I plan to use my situations to relate to others and help by showing them they are not alone and that success can still be achieved with faith, strength and mental toughness.
Hence, my fall into Inspirational Speaking. “What happens to you is not always for you…”, are words from my pastor that i live by. Everything we go through is for others to see us come out of to show them they can do it too! So our glory is in our journey. I overcame this by simply understanding that my journey was tailored for me to endure so that i may inspire others to overcome their situations. I learned that there is nothing we cant accomplish when we put our minds, hearts and faith to it. So my brand is built on faith, strength, perseverance and grind work! My story is all about inspiration and vision and hope! We all can overcome but sometimes we need help. Sometimes we need hope. Sometime we need someone to show us the way, and i wanna be that person. My brand and my story is that.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man my turnup days aren’t as lit as they use to be lol. We would have to workout for one lol… But Pappadeaux, Lost & Found, Grooves on Fridays for happy hour 75 cents drinks. I host networking events each Thursday at Local Seat and CRU on Saturdays with my team so those will be definite places to go. I really cant think of many places because of I dont remember names lol…
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First want to shout out my moms! She has always been there for me despite anything we faced in life and always found a way to get through! Also want to thank my family at Ben Taub Hospital for really taking great care of me and ensuring I was in great shape while in ICU. Lastly, my teams TRU Investments and Run It Up Investments for pushing me and challenging me to be my optimal version of myself day in and day out.
