We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy and Amy Bivins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy and Amy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was pretty simple…why not?! We loved our pickles and friends and family have enjoyed them for years, so it was just the next logical step in moving forward. Amy had left full time work to homeschool our kids – so it was a great outlet and way for us all to connect as a family. It is a bonus it brings in additional income too!

What should our readers know about your business?
We believe that what makes JB’s Pantry Pickles special is that we have stuck to the simple, clean ingredient list. So many brands have dyes and preservatives that just don’t belong in a pickle jar – much less inside our bodies! We are incredibly proud of this fact and love that we have nothing to hide. You can find our ingredients on our website and on every jar. We developed our business from our love of family time harvests in the summer at Amy’s parents family home. We helped garden and harvest all spring/summer long and we loved making and testing hot pickles. Once we discovered that the habanero really gave our pickles a unique flavor, it was easy to just keep making them and give this little business a shot.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love being outdoors – so we would take our friends: Matagorda Bay to bird watch and kayak Brazos Bend State Park to see the alligators Herman Park for the gardens and zoo Eats: Tex Mex and Margaritas from El Tiempo BBQ from Killians, Midway, and Rudys Afternoon Beers from No Label and St Arnolds Space Center Houston – love a little educational trip too Houston has some of the best things to do for big city – beach, food, places to visit! We love our city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to shout out to all our friends who’ve continue to support us every step of the way! We love our customers too! Here are a few: Katy Mom’s Network, Shop Small Katy, Katy Market Days, This lovely magazine – Voyage, In a Pickle Festival, and countless friends and customers that continue to left us up and share!
