We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerome Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerome, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to make sure we are creating a business that helps and pushes forward the culture that has given me my identity. Hip-Hop has been my love and passion for 20 years, so to create a place for rappers, singers, songwriters and enthusiasts to learn about the history, the trends, and the craft itself was something my Co-Founder Mickey Factz and I felt like was so necessary in this day and age.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I feel sets me apart from others is my obsessiveness over my craft. I take my writing and my ability to create very seriously. I study and focus on phonetics, etymology, morphology and other things to ensure that from a technical standpoint my writing is seamless and on par with the best in the world. I am proud to have been given the platform to teach, mentor and foster other rappers and writers who love the culture and the craft just as much as me. Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy, and it took many years in battle rap and the music world to build a reputation solid enough to be trusted by others to educate them in this same field. One thing I want the world to know and remember about me is I was never given anything. Anything I have, i’ve learned through hard work and tireless effort. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard! But when you have talent and work hard you can take it as far as you want! Thank God for giving me talent ans the ability to work hard. I am truly blessed.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Boston has a lot of cool things to do and check out. We would definitely hit some good food spots that are popular amongst the locals, like Regina Pizzeria, Legal Sea Foods and Darryls Corner Bar and Kitchen. There are also plenty of sites to see. Depending on the time of year, we could check out a Red Sox or Celtics game. Being a great collegiate city as well, there is Harvard, MIT, and other great schools who often have cool events worth attending. Theres a lot of factors that would determine how we actually spend our time but theres definitely no shortage of great places to eat and amazing places to see.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother and my daughter are the driving forces that keep me focused and keep me driven to be great day in and day out. My mother has always supported me, even as a high school drop out! She trusted in me to figure out my path and to pursue a career that stimulated and interested me and she remains to this day my biggest fan and supporter. My daughter is who I do this all for. She inspires me to want to create generational wealth to make sure that once she graduates high school, she has the freedom to pursue any career that she wants without worrying about anyone or anything being able to stop her. She is the love of my life!
