We had the good fortune of connecting with Jose Luis (aka Luis) Osorio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jose Luis (AKA Luis), we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
One of the biggest risk I took was moving from New Jersey to Texas which was in February 2024; having no family here and barely knowing anyone. My first time in HTX was the first week of January of 2024 and I stayed for 3 days to photograph Vortxz and Orion 224, which I discovered them through social media in the summer of 2023.

After connecting with the band, two photographs (Joel and Gisselle) told me if I see myself doing concert photography/videography then I should consider moving here. So I took my chances and now I’m in a media team, went on tour, and made new friends along the way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the biggest challenges I faced a couple years ago was burnout which led me to sell all of my gear. I was cameraless for a month until I decided I wanted to buy a small camera (Fujifilm X100V) before leaving the States for a while because I wanted to get back to photography and document my life.

That moment was when I found my passion for photography again and decided to document my everyday life and do some street photography.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Even though I’m still new to HTX and finding new spots everyday. One of my favorite spots to go is Buffalo Bayou Park at night to see the city skyline, The Post, and Cidercade. Places to eat are Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, Main Bird, and Jinya Ramen Bar.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a big shoutout to Vortxz and Midnight Beverage for recognizing my work and giving me a chance to photograph and record them since I had no experience in concert photography/videography, only street photography and some portraits.

I also want to thank the people that welcomed me to the city of HTX and reassuring me that even though I’m far from home, I have a whole new family in HTX!
