We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Elmore Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had been working on and off in the film industry for ten years. One thing i learned is constancy is the key to success. I could not keep shooting a movie and then searching years for another investor in order to shoot my next movie. I know how to make a good film, I know how to make money doing it, my biggest problem has always been working capital. If I could just create a legitimate company (ElmoreVision Entertainment) and use that company to build up working capital then I could finance my own projects. Now when I find an investors they’re investing in my company so that we can shoot more than one movie. It’s all about shooting back to back to back. An entire slate of movies that people want to see.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
i think the thing that sets me apart from most filmmakers is my voice. Just like most artist I have a voice that is all my own. I see life a certain way and I use that knowledge to tell stories in the unique manner in which I see life. What I’m proud of the most is the people I have touched and the lives that have I have changed for the better. I am also super proud of the fact I never gave up. I was told in the beginning that I would never be a filmmaker. It was an 8million to one shot that I would ever have a movie in a theater. Well in 2008 I shot Speed-Dating it was released in theaters around the country in September 2010. I got to where I am thru a lot of hard work and belief in myself. Was it easy? No. Whenever I get challenged I put my head down and just go. Do something positive and refuse to succumb to the nonsense and the negativity. What I have learned is that the film industry is tough and sometimes dirty but you do not have to crawl in the mud in order to be successful. Keep positive people around you and continue to strive to be better in your career as well as your personal life. What I want the world to know is that ElmoreVision Entertainment will make an impact on the world. We will make money for our investors and create the type of content that people will know and love even after we are gone, because as filmmakers know, movies are forever.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Although I am not big on going out, one of my favorite places to go around Houston is Dave and Busters. After that bowling would be my go to. I love playing basketball, checking out sporting events, Rockets, Texans and Astros when the Yankees play.’
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother LueCatherine Elmore deserves all of the credit. From a young age she always encouraged me to be creative. She supported everything I did. She worked from 2pm to 11pm but never missed a school play or talent show. When I was in a city concert/contest to be the best rap group in Buffalo, my mother was there with my younger brother.
