We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Rojas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, what do you want people to remember about you?
My legacy, I think of my family however I also think of people and events that have shaped my life. Who I am, and more so who I want to be. I’m extremely close to my family and my close friends who become my family. I wouldn’t be able to make it through each day without knowing I have their support, or even their disapproval in my choice to pursue what I love, what I’m passionate about, and what drives me. That may sound awful or confusing, but I have to try and turn that positive energy into focus and that negative energy into fuel. Film, has always been one of the biggest staples in my life, it’s my medicine on a long day, it gives me time to lose myself for 2 hours and leave my issues behind and become the hero, villain, fighter, cowboy, and so much more, sometimes I just enjoy being an extra who witnesses these events unfold. Most of my idols have some involvement in the entertainment industry or history, they all wanted to create things that would better humanity as a whole, they wanted to make the world feel a bit smaller in those lonely times, and a bit brighter in the dark ones. I want to be remembered for helping people get through the toughest of times through my creations and actions, if I can make one person smile a day I’ve taken one step closer to achieving that goal.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It started with a conversation and 2 horrible phone recorded videos. I always said I’m going to hop on YouTube and start creating something, and one night I had enough of just talking about it, and I Just Watched was born. It started as a hobby, and a small fix to hold me over with my dream of film, as I continued to work on it and learn I knew film and entertainment was for me. I love communicating with people around the world over topics we both love or debating our ideas, and having a new fire lit under me, I did the craziest thing and started taking classes focused on film, and I know doesn’t sound crazy but it is when you didn’t tell anyone in the family to avoid the how come your not going to be a lawyer anymore?? Conversation. Multiple obstacles hit, from Mother Nature slowing me down with hurricanes, to a bunch of surgeries back to back, I pressed on. My friends Erick and David started filming with me on I Just Watched as we kept growing bit by bit. Then in my classes I start branching out and making short films with some class mates, which leads us to the company we are building from the ground up! Redefining Creations, we make short film after short film, we start shooting weddings, music videos, advertisements, and anything we can get our hands on! We have grown as a team and a family and we see our future together, it will be amazing because we all in a way want the same thing. To change and help people through our stories and the stories we can create.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a week, we’d have to dig in with some delicious BBQ, like rib tickler or Rudy’s. A few brewery’s like 8th dimension, 11 below, without question to get some live music, tasty food, and some drinks for the soul! Catching a game at Minute Maid stadium and cheering with the crowd as we cross the street after. Live music, good food, and great drinks is a must wherever we go, and luckily Houston has us covered! We can create a fun adventure or even take a trip to explore Texas as a whole and really get to trying nee things!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends and fellow creators at Redefining Creations, my best friends for giving me the kick in the ass I need and also knowing when to listen. We may not always see eye to eye, but my moms, for still being my rock, a pointy one that hurts sometimes but my rock nonetheless.
