We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Ussery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After leaving the oil and gas industry and combining my artistic passion with my business knowledge I knew I wanted to work for myself and provide something for the world that I can have my own control over. I love helping people and wanted to be able to do that when people are starting their own businesses as well, especially during this uncertain time we live in.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Finding a niche or passion to start my own business always seemed to be a difficult never ending battle for me. I always remember the quote “nothing easy is worth having” or something like that. But, let me tell you, I felt called by God and pointed in the right direction after the discussion from my mother in law and once that happened it all clicked, and it is not a smooth easy road, but the hills and curves on the road are something I feel I can face and each battle is easy to conquer. Following the path I feel God has laid out it shows that things are put into place naturally. I like to think that what sets me apart from others is my ability to truly read my client and listen to find what works for them and their brand.
I want the world to know I am here and I bring my experience and passion to help you find branding solutions and I absolutely love what I do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a former Houston Rockets Power Dancer and I cannot start anything without starting with a Houston Rocket’s Game. It is the most wonderful experience and I love the energy at the games. The food in Houston in unmatched in any other place I have ever lived. When I travel either inside the state or outside, I love coming home to Houston as the Food is absolutely incredible.
Shoutout to the restaurants; Gringo’s (the green sauce is my favorite here), Grace’s Pizza (Alvin Texas, you have to get their Shakes! and their appetizer is to die for!) My absolute favorite breakfast with a beautiful Christian atmosphere in the morning is Red Oak Grill, the bathroom is filled with beautiful scriptures and is a great way to start you day!
Kemah is such a great experience overall.
We would have to spend a few days in Galveston eating at Fisherman’s Warf and my absolute favorite is the Brick House Tavern (you have to get the pretzel!) Where I celebrated with my husband of our engagement. Enjoying the beautiful beaches and driving down to surfside to drive on the beach.
Houston has so much to offer and I love being outside and enjoying the beautiful weather.
Hanger 9 in Conroe is one of the best places to spend the day in the water and learning a new activity, wakeboarding. Also, when we had our boat, hanging out on Clear Lake at Nassua Bay then eating lunch at Boondoggles Pub is one of the best experiences.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout to my mother in law, Kelley with Laly’s Apron. She inspired me to follow my passion and dreams when we were having a meeting of the minds for her new business. It was inspiring and I started that day to push the limit of not only being a wife and mother to my three beautiful girls, but also follow my passion to help other entrepreneurs.
