We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Spikes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Life is literally all about risks, and I have always been a risk taker.
I wouldn’t be in the position I am today without making choices.
What I have learned through both good and bad consequence, is that calculated risk trumps all.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There are hair salons on every corner in Houston, TX.
But what was important to me was to be in an environment that fosters growth, camaraderie, care for the environment, and above all, education.
Being in a group of like minded peers that are dedicated to doing more and greater is of the utmost importance.
I truly believe what has afforded me the opportunities that have come my way is my love of learning. I would not be able to create the hair color and styles as I do if it were not for having a student mindset.
The path that I have taken to get here has not been traditional nor has it been easy.
Most people enter the beauty industry right out of high school while I on the other hand decided to make that leap in my late 20’s.
Disregarding my late start, I have found ways to add to the lives of my fellow coworkers and clients in terms of interpersonal communication, collaboration, empathy, and customer service.
Although getting started was challenging, I maintained myself by staying focused on my end result and trusting that everything I do is a small lesson on the path my to my personal success.
Not every lesson I have learned has been related to hair. Many times it has been my own negative self talk, boundary placement, conflict resolution, as well as motivation, and endurance.
So I believe that remaining open, and being honest with yourself, and keeping your eye on your desired result will get you much further than anything irrespective of career field.
I love life, I love creating transformations, and I love working with Haircare Products that are clean, safe, and sustainable.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Timothy Brown, Carlos Alvarez Roque, Trademark Salon, Melba Epps, My Family and My closest friends
