We had the good fortune of connecting with Korbin Lawson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Korbin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my foundation because I saw the things going on in my community and decided I wanted to be the change and not just another person who talks about it. I wanted to do what ever it took to see the scale tip in the favor of those who were not as fortunate as me to grow up in a 2 parent house hold and not have to worry about where my next meal was going to come from. I didn’t want the youth to turn to gangs and drugs and follow the path that so many have already been down that only leads to a tombstone or the rest of your life locked in a box. Even if it means putting up my own money and taking time out of my day, I’ll do it , because change starts when we put others before ourselves.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently I’m working part time at Best Buy while I’m earning my undergraduate degree in Earth Science at the University of Houston Main Campus. After graduating I plan to attend graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin and after earning my masters in geology I plan to then work in the oil and gas field.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Lebron James is truly who inspired me to start my foundation. When I saw him put up millions of his own money to open a school in the neighborhood he was from to give kids who grew up in the same place he did a chance at getting an education I was moved. Lebron didn’t just provide them with schooling for 1st – 8th grade he also vouched to pay for their college education for them and their parents. That’s life changing and so I thought to myself what’s stopping me from bringing change to my neighborhood? The answer was myself, and once I understood that the rest was history.
