We had the good fortune of connecting with Lafayette Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lafayette, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well, I’m an entertainer. I’m human, and I had to find locations to record my music and shoot music videos. I didn’t have all the money in the world, so I was always looking for the best deal. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial drive. When I came to Houston, I saw it was an untapped market, very divided. So, I wanted to bridge the gaps between the business world and the entertainment world—connect, create, and build.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I’m a businessman, capitalist, entertainer, visionary. What sets me apart is that my vision doesn’t stop, and I love the underdog because I am one. I believe in others and don’t allow them to give up on themselves. I see the good in everybody. What excites me the most is that everyone else is excited for me as well; they see that there’s light at the end of the tunnel and are eager to take this journey with me. I got to where I am today professionally because I believe in these four principles, which are part of my brand: ‘I am just an intern.’ Believe in these four things, and you can do anything in this world: research, listen, learn, and apply. It was never easy; it’s still not easy. Challenges I had to go through include not having construction workers, dealing with setbacks like illness or finding new ways to scale the business. The lessons I’ve learned along the way include always finding a solution and sometimes understanding that things have to wait. You can’t get everything done at once, and it’s essential to plan for contingencies. I want the world to know that we are stronger together than apart—connect, create, and build.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, my friends love seafood, so I’d take them to different seafood places daily, starting with Lotus, Swamp City, and bbs. For breakfast, we’d go to Breakfast Club. We’d also visit a few hookah spots since most of my friends are in the entertainment or business realm. We’d spend time at the studio and visit some of my affiliates’ locations. Of course, they’d want to go to the Galleria Mall, and I’d show them Greenspoint Mall to experience the culture. We’d also hit up a few different clubs.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my parents for tough love Brothers and sisters, Tony Smith, my cousin, my fiancé Meoka McBride, my late friend Major League Beats, and Dajpway , James Jackson, Xl, Dj Cali Royce , Sceneman JB , Sam Randel, Jordann Dwayne, 90one, Rena From IDream Empire, Albie Dickson, Kristin The Financial Coach, Seven The Shooter, and The rest my 1 Soundvibe Family for sure.
