We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Egwuatu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leah, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I established the Fit Foodie Le blog in 2012 initially as a channel through which I could show other women how to live fit, healthy lifestyles through the documentation of my own healthy meals, recipes, fitness motivation, and workouts. Over the years it has grown and developed into a tool and resource for a vast array of supporters (of various ages, genders, socioeconomic & marital status as well as mothers and non-mothers)! Instagram is absolutely one of my favorite places to engage with my supporters! Through the fitness company I co-own with my husband, Fit Phix, we provide results to men and women all over the globe and motivate them to live and lead healthier lifestyles. I truly believe that setting a healthy standard and example for our families starts at home.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Let’s chat about my Influencer journey. I started my Instagram in 2012 when my first born was just beginning to walk and had noooo idea what I was jumping into! I started my health and fitness blog, www.fitfoodiele.com, a few months earlier, but I was posting randomly to IG with no rhyme or reason. I began to post about different workouts I was doing, healthy recipes I was making, and sharing about motherhood from a 1st time mom’s perspective. Before I knew it, my IG account was mirroring my blog, and I began to connect with other bloggers, get recognized by brands I grew up using and watching on TV, and growing an organic following of supporters! I would receive several questions and comments on my posts and in my DMs too (which is where I’d get most of my blog post ideas!). Combining the two was a great move; some of my supporters are STILL following my journey after all these years! Grateful is an understatement as our first born will be 10 years old soon. I am so blown away and appreciative for the support my family and I have been shown over the years! The brand partnerships and opportunities that have come from posting content I live and love has made this a true dream job.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well my friends think I weird cause I LOVE grocery shopping, haha! Central Market is definitely a place I’d take a friend for lunch and snacks. I would then take them down the street to check out a good movie at iPic Theaters in River Oaks. If they were into working out, Equinox or Lifetime City Centre is where we’d stop for a workout and massage! I love hanging out in City Centre when the weather is cooperating so a little shopping there (for workout clothes of course!) would be on the agenda too. I’m such a homebody so this would be a very full day for me, lol.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shoutout my life and business partner, my husband! God reminds me often why he joined Sonny and I together. He has always listened to my goals and dreams with an open, unbiased mind no matter how outlandish and silly they were/are. He pushes me (buttons included LOL) toward them when I get discouraged, hit a wall, or need help navigating a difficult issue. When it’s 2am and I’m crying to him all the reasons I cannot complete an important goal I have set, he never lets me give up so easily! Like ever! He responds in love, builds me up, and reminds me of all the reasons I can and why I should keep going. He leads our family as God leads Him! He has been vital to my influencer journey and is often my camera man, goes to get any products or props I need, and handles all the kiddos when I have deadlines to meet. I’m honored to have him in my corner and be on his team.
Other: I have a dairy & lactose-free monthly recipe subscription and newsletter that I just re-launched! Head to https://www.fitfoodiele.com/join for me details and to join!
