We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Barrientos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Ever since I was a little girl I have always felt different from everyone else. For a lot of my life I looked at that as a negative thing, but through years of pursuing my dreams and passions I have learned that it’s what makes me different that brings me success. I know that God created me to be exactly who I am, and that personal confidence has lead me to have professional confidence in pursuing a career doing hair and makeup!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First and foremost I would like to give all of the Glory to God. I am honored to be a steward of the gifts and knowledge he has given me. I began my journey in the beauty industry in 2012 after completing cosmetology school. I quickly joined an apprenticeship program at T’nT hair salons in Pasadena tx. There I started working on clients and flourished as a stylist. Unfortunately a few years later in 2016 I discovered a severe allergy to hair color that had been developing over the years. This lead me to a fork in the road. I could either start over and find a completely different career or I could pursue a career in special event hair and makeup full time! I went with the second option. I started trying to build consistency in my work for years. I wouldn’t have made it without my wonderful parents. Then I finally got my big opportunity working for Blushd Beauty in 2018. Since then I have worked consistently with weddings to this day! Makael at Blushd Beauty has built a wonderful company to work for and I will forever be grateful for her. This brings us to today. After years of working for other people I am branching out and marketing my own business, Joyful Beauty Company. I am so excited to bring my years of experience in the wedding industry as well as my love for helping people achieve their perfect look to all of my future bookings. Let’s see where this journey takes me next!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Growing up in southeast TX there is one place that will always have my heart, Galveston. Experiencing Galveston from childhood to now shows that it has something for everyone! Some of my favorite places in Galveston are Hearsay on the Strand, The Tremont house hotel, and The Spot! Just last Sunday my husband surprised me with a day in Galveston (he knows it’s my favorite). We started at The Spot where we had some awesome seafood overlooking the seawall, then we went and walked on the beach, people watching and taking in the sound of the ocean. Then last we stopped by Murdochs where I got the cutest Galveston shirt and we both got ice creams and sat on the rocking chairs they have outside. That was just the perfect day to me!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout Taylor Brown, who started T’nT hair salon in Pasadena with his wife Toni in 1980. I started working at T’nT after completing cosmetology school in 2013. This is where my love for the beauty industry flourished. Taylor is such a passionate and creative person that you couldn’t help but let some of that rub off on you! I owe the foundations of my hair and makeup skills, as well as business knowledge to Taylor. I will always be thankful to Toni and Taylor for the opportunities they gave me at their salon! Although the salon has since changed owners, the salon that Toni and Taylor created is still very much alive!
