We had the good fortune of connecting with Marc Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marc, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up I was always very artistic. I went to performing arts schools for painting and music. I also spent my last two years of high school in the culinary arts program. So , it was inevitable that I was going to be an artist or creator.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started out as a makeup artist but soon realized that I had so much more to offer the beauty industry. In my mind I always knew that makeup was just the beginning. I’m proud that I have been able to create the amazing airbrush makeup line , MHB Cosmetics and an organic skincare line , MyskincAir Organics. As a published artist that has worked with models, celebrities, in production and television, I wanted to created products that made the everyday person feel and look beautiful. I wanted to make them feel like they are the star. That is the key to my success. I truly believe in making people feel special, beautiful and happy when they are receiving the Marc Harvey Beauty Experience. It was and is not easy creating and branding your own product. I overcame many challenges by staying true to myself and my talent. Always realizing that this industry is not a competition. No one will ever do what you do and vice versa. I’ve learned many lessons along the way, but the most important lesson is to always bet on yourself for your success. I want the world to know that the Marc Harvey Beauty brand was created for everyone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since many places are still shutdown because of the pandemic, if I had a friend that was visiting , the first couple of days we would catch up by staying in, cooking, having long conversations about love and politics, then binge watch Black comedy cinema. Then, we would have a full day of shopping and eating in River Oaks District. Next we would have a spa day at Milk in Honey Spa. Finally, I would plan a photoshoot and get us both dolled up to take some professional images so that we could memorialize their visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve always had a great support team. My parents were a little concerned when I told them that I was going to pursue a career as a makeup artist, but they soon came around. They started supporting me in my career just as they had when I was developing my artistic abilities in school. Also, my friend and mentor Tisha Hughes. She recognized my potential early on and referred to the owner of the modeling agency where she worked as the Creative Director. Within a year, she moved to New York and I became the Creative Director.
