We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariam Diallo-Bah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariam, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind Pure Aloha’s success is definitely my passion for what I do. I wake up everyday looking forward to working on my business in some form. Whether it’s making the products, being at an event, or even talking to people about it, it puts a smile on my face every time. I love that my business allows me to use my artistic side, and think outside the box. Looking back at the growth over the years has definitely been a confidence booster because I find myself accomplishing things I didn’t think I could before.
What should our readers know about your business?
What makes me happiest about my business is that it came naturally, and completely unplanned. I feel that the things my grandmother passed down to me as a little girl helped me to create my natural skincare business. I also feel that this is my second chance to do what I love more than anything else, craft/create. I always wanted to be an artist, but I didn’t get the chance to pursue that dream, but my business has allowed me to use my artistic skills to create these products. I got where I am because so many people came into my life at the right time and gave me the knowledge, the opportunity, and the encouragement I needed to try something new.
It wasn’t easy to get here, and I’ve still got a long way to go, but I am so grateful for all the challenges, and lessons learned along the way because they made me stronger, and more appreciative of what I have.
I have learned that not everyone can see your vision, or support your journey, and that’s okay. Only you know what you are capable of and, how far you’re willing to go for your dream. Just because it seems impossible to someone else, does not mean it’s impossible for you to achieve your dream.
I love what I do, and I hope to make a difference in the world by creating products that make a difference in people’s lives, and to always be encouraging and helpful to those who have dreams they want to follow.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s a tough one because I am very much a home body, and I’m usually busy making products and planning all things business related.
I do love road trips, so I’d say anywhere you can drive and enjoy the scenery. One of my favorite things about Texas is the driving through the countryside.
My favorite places to eat are Bubba Gump’s at the Riverwalk in San Antonio, and Kona Grill.
My favorite places to visit are usually out in nature. I’d take them to the Botanical Gardens. Take them downtown for a carriage ride, and enjoy the nightlife in general.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my husband Al, who has been an amazing provider to our family, which has allowed me to focus on building my business.
I’d also like to thank my best friend, Danielle, for always being so supportive, and literally staying up all hours of the night to help me create labels, come up with packaging ideas, and for being the best cheerleader a girl could ask for.
It’s truly a blessing to have a person who gets you, listens to your wild, crazy ideas, and says “you can do this”, is there to celebrate the wins with you, and is genuinely happy to see you succeed.
