We had the good fortune of connecting with Miguel “AJM” Alcorn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miguel, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by living life. I think the day to day is something that you can take and build off of, if you look at life through a lens that will propel you, no matter if it is good or if it’s bad.

Often I realize the biggest rewards come with the biggest risk, and that can be so rewarding when things go according to plan.
God inspires me, Women inspire me, nature inspires me, and the city inspires me, I love San Antonio.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love writing and being in a creative space that will help me express myself to the best of my ability. I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m very poetic. I approach every song or poem in a way that can keep the listener engaging from the start to the finish, I try to stay true to myself as an artist, and I always try to have some type of message in my music. I’m really proud of this upcoming debut album, Beautiful Distractions. It’ll drop most likely on my birthday in October and I’m so proud of the way it’s turned out. I’ve worked on it for 4 years, and it’s been a very long process, women have impacted my life in a numerous amount of ways and I channeled it all into the music, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I’ve been hurt, but I took the time to heal and craft my art to get over the pain, I channeled my energy into the gym as well, to physically push myself every time I step into the gym to be a better lifter. This has also helped me as a artist. While building this album, I learned not to overthink the music, I can do that sometimes, in a way have a “perfectionist mentality” that’s part of the reason this project has taken 4 years to complete ahaha, but I learned if the music is good, push for greatness, but don’t run yourself insane, and sometimes being in the middle of good and great is not a bad place to be. I put so much into this album, and I’m excited it’s almost going to be released. I also learned not to give too much too soon. and it’s okay to take things slow, as far as relationships go, sometimes you need to slow it down. I talk about that on the album, because when you’re running 100 mph it’s hard to sit back and think about your life, and unfortunately I didn’t come to that realization until I almost lost my life in a car accident last year. I look at life different now. I cherish every moment I can, because life is so fragile.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well you can’t come to San Antonio and not go to the River Walk. Definitely gotta check out this place Comfort Cafe, great food with a great cause to support! Alamo Beer Garden is a pretty chill spot as well, And the Essex Gallery is dope to see some amazing art!
