Meet Mika Smith | Owner & Event Bartender | Pour Decisions by Mika

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mika Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mika, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by the privilege of being part of people’s celebrations. Every event, big or small, has its own story and purpose, and I love knowing that our work becomes a lasting part of that memory.

What should our readers know about your business?
Pour Decisions by Mika started with a 30-year-old rusty horse trailer that we remodeled into a mobile bar. After our first year, we realized we wanted to evolve, so we sold the trailer and completely changed our business model, investing in two stationary mobile bars. That shift allowed us to expand, serve more clients, and start hiring bartenders to grow our team.
It hasn’t always been easy—growth is uncomfortable—but this journey has taught me to roll with the punches and trust my instincts. Every event is different, and every challenge has pushed me to get creative and adapt. I’m most proud of the fact that our business keeps evolving without losing the heart of what we do: creating memorable, meaningful experiences for our clients on their biggest days.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about Pour Decisions by Mika, it’s that we’re not just serving drinks—we’re helping people celebrate life’s most special moments, and we take pride in making every event unforgettable.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a total foodie, so anyone visiting me in Houston needs to be ready to eat – especially Vietnamese food. I was raised by my Vietnamese grandmother, so I grew up with authentic flavors, and I love sharing that part of my life with people. Fortunately, Houston makes it easy. I would take friends to try the shrimp comets and a Vietnamese espresso martini at Remton in Webster. For a comforting, steaming bowl of pho, Mai’s is a classic, and if they’re up for crispy seafood noodles, Mi 45 South never misses.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am nothing without my people. The support from my friends and family has been incredible. My wife was the one who finally bullied me into starting this business after years of hearing me talk about my ideas, and my mom has even clocked in a few times in the summer heat to help me out. My friends have been there every step—offering their backyard for my launch party, teaching me how to back up my first pickup truck, and always mentioning my business in a room full of opportunity. Their love and encouragement have been the backbone of this journey, and I’m endlessly grateful.
