We had the good fortune of connecting with Naketa Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Naketa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought proscess behind starting Broskiiz Watersports was to make sure that our clients have a hands on experience with a watersport rental company. Usually the process is impersonal.. Just step by step on where to rent, how much it cost, and when to drop back off.
Broskiiz Watersports create a Vibe on and off the water.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets Broskiiz aside is the Vibes we create with the clients. We gear to the people that want to experience vacation like activites but arent able to travel far to do so. We also want those first timers… Alot of our clients never jetskied before, never got into deep water or water that they cant see through. Those moments are what we are most proud of. We love hearing “we never did this before” or “this our first time”.
It definitely hasnt been easy. Going to rent a jetski, ride it and return it is easy.
But to run a business with the jetskis, its a whole other language. Learning about marine mechanics, boat and trailer registry and laws. It has been a whole different experience. Buying the jetskis was easy. The trailers gave us issues after we found out they had to be registered and then found out we couldnt register ours because it was homemade without a vin number. That was a complete obstacle we had to go through, seeing that we need trailers to be able to carry the jetskis on lol.
I want the world to know that Broskiiz watersports was black founded, to create a space for minorities to feel comfortable about something new. I want to make sure that people can relate. Ricky is Puerto Rican and he is very proud to be. We have a large hispanic clientele because of him. Broskiiz watersports bring the party to rental. Tents, coolers, music, chairs and more importantly the FUN!
Jetski are just the beginning for Broskiiz. We are always increasing our inventory.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first take them to Lake Conroe to enjoy the Jetskis. Then take them to midtown to enjoy some cool places to have drinks.
Breakfast at Franks Grille
Brunch at Maxs wine dive.
I would to take them to EADO (East downtown) awesome people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Partner Ricky for helping me bring my idea to life. Both of our families for the continued support and patience.
My sister Latrisha for giving me the courage to take the leap.
