We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalia Andreeva and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalia, why did you pursue a creative career?
From a young age, I was captivated by art’s magical process of transforming “nothing” into something beautiful and meaningful. The act of creation brings me immense joy, offering endless possibilities for exploration, constant learning, and refining my skills. Art is also my way of connecting with people and the community, allowing me to share my experiences and perspectives of the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself a modern impressionist, focusing primarily on painting from life and on location. My passion lies in preserving and passing on the skills of observational art to future generations.
My artistic journey began with the support and inspiration of my grandfather, which laid a strong foundation for my creativity. This path deepened when I joined a children’s art studio, where my artistic voice began to take shape. As my dream of becoming a professional artist grew, I pursued higher education, which eventually led me to a faculty position. This role became an important part of my artistic evolution, allowing me to nurture not only my craft but also my ability to inspire others.

Afterward, I diversified into computer graphics and animation, collaborating with a forward-thinking advertising agency. This experience challenged me to explore new aspects of creativity, broadening my artistic horizons.

When I immigrated to the U.S., I faced the challenge of rebuilding my art career from the ground up. I started with local street art shows, and over time, this led to owning a studio and managing art programs. Today, I hold Signature Membership status with the American Impressionist Society, serve as president of Plein Air Painters of South East, and am a past president of the Tallahassee Watercolor Society. I’ve also participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, receiving several awards, each of which contributed to my growth as an artist and as an individual.

Was it easy? No. The journey to where I am today has required immense perseverance, a path full of challenges. As a plein air painter, it’s not only about having artistic skill but also being physically resilient, enduring harsh weather, dealing with bugs, distractions, and overcoming self-doubt. Surrounding yourself with good and supportive people has been vital in overcoming these challenges, helping me push through even the toughest times.

One of the more challenging aspects of my journey was navigating the many choices and directions along the way. But over time, I realized it doesn’t matter which path you choose, what truly matters is continuing to work. By staying committed to your craft, the right direction will unfold on its own. The key is to never stop moving forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first time I visited College Station and Bryan was six years ago, and I was excited to discover Degallery and meet its incredible owner, Daria (Dary) Dega. She is truly a gem! The gallery is a vibrant space that offers something for everyone, and every time I visit, I leave feeling inspired. It’s a place that beautifully embodies the creative spirit of the region, offering both contemporary works and a nod to the classic styles that have shaped my own artistic journey.
The area around College Station, with its wide-open spaces, longhorns, and bluebonnets, also serves as a constant source of inspiration. The Texas landscape, with its rugged beauty and changing colors, complements the artistic energy of the gallery, making it the perfect place for reflection and creation.

For me, Degallery is more than just a place to view art—it’s where the local art community thrives, connecting people through shared experiences, ideas, and creativity. It’s one of those special spots where the connection between artist and viewer feels genuine and deeply rooted in the culture of the region.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and I am no exception. I am deeply grateful to the many people I’ve encountered along my journey. First and foremost, I owe a great deal to my family, especially my incredibly supportive husband. I also want to thank the teachers who nurtured my passion, from my childhood art studio to my university professors. My friends, peers, collectors, and the art communities, including galleries and museums, have all played a significant role in my growth. Each of these individuals and groups has helped shape the person and artist I am today.
