We had the good fortune of connecting with Natasha Cancel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natasha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Professionally, I constantly take risks in order to develop and get to where I want to be. I believe there is no other way and I’m fine with that. When I am faced with a situation that gives me knots in my stomach and somehow challenges my abilities, my brain perceives a chance for growth. I tell myself: “after overcoming this you will be even better”. On a personal level, I am the youngest of three sisters, my father’s favorite (don’t tell them) so in some way or another I always got away with everything. My family is my Safe Harbor and together we can do everything. I am blessed by God and therefore I have an adventurous spirit and full of hope for the good things to come.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, I have been a nail artist for about 15 years. I do all kinds of nails, acrylic, gel, and hand painted designs (Even though everyone knows I love the super long and elaborate nails). I work every day to please my girls, I try my best to pay the most attention to detail and I love spending time making my clients feel appreciated. I am blessed to say that I am fulfilling my life long dream. I called myself a nail artist because I have a genuine passion for this art and I have grown a lot professionally and as a human being thanks to this God given talent. I would not say that doing nails is difficult, but, it is not a hobby. This is my career. It takes time and dedication, continuous education and energy both physical and mental. It took me several years to understand it and I can tell the differences in me now that I have spent the last 4 years perfecting my art here in Houston. I know that You’ll get out what you put in. Taking Over fills me with Hope. Being here in Houston doing nails is an amazing opportunity. I get to represent my roots and do what I love! I can hardly believe it! If you read this and you have a dream like me, I’ll send you all my good energy and if you want some beautiful nails, come and see me! Kisses!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This one was bit hard to answer because I don’t go out that much but lets see:
Houston zoo
Kemah Boardwalk
The Boardwalk at Towne Lake
City Centre
I enjoy playing games, long walks and deep conversations.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family, Unconditional support of the best quality. If I had to give them a review it would be 5 stars! Mommy, Daddy and my two sisters have always been there for me and they deserve the first places in all the shoutouts. Since I decided to move to Houston, 4 years ago my big sister has been unconditional support and I will never will be able to thank her enough. I have also made friends that are like treasures to me. Sandra Ramirez, Raven Christian, Alesha Horton, Nancy Davila, Alexis Stewart, Briauna Perkins, Norvella and Temptist Haywood, Amanda Martin and I’m sure I am forgetting a few right now but their support and encouragement has been key on this journey. I can’t imagine life without them. Taking Over would not exist without Valaencia Thompson. From this woman’s first appointment she made it her mission to let other people know what I do and at the same time she became a friend and mentor. Last but not least, I thank my clients for trusting me with their hands, having patience with me and showing me so much affection. I feel and appreciate a lot and I will continue working to give them the best.
