We had the good fortune of connecting with Ngozi Nwafor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ngozi, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
One day in 2017 my identical twin sister told me we should start a youtube channel. I didnt know much about youtube at the time. All I knew was I used it to listen to music videos on youtube but I said yes. I didnt know that one yes would have such a profound impact on my life for years to come.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Im most excited about my career as a Youtube content creator. I share a channel called Ejima- Nnena and Ngozi with my identical twin sister Nnena. We started talking about love and relationships but pivoted to talking about our lives as millennials in Houston, TX and Charlotte, NC respectively. We realized alot of people are looking for a change and moving to a new city is a big one. Growing on youtube was far from easy. We started in 2017 but didnt monetize our channel until 2021. Creating content that resonates with an audience can be tricky but our consistency has helped us build a community of loyal followers. Youtube has taught me that dedication and consistency are key to building any brand. Alot of people start youtube channels but disappear and I totally understand why. Its alot of work but its so worth it! I also have a personal youtube channel- Ngozi Nwafor where I talk about my journey with 4c natural hair, wellness, and lifestyle content.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One thing about Houston is that it has spots for day!! I would start off the week with a visit to a few museums including the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Whats a trip without shopping? We would visit the Galleria mall and check out Joey Uptown afterward for a cute weekday happy hour. Then we would visit other attractions like the WaterWall, I love Houston sign, and drive through the river oaks mansions. While in River Oaks we would visit the River Oaks District and visit Loch Bar or Toulouse for a bite. After eating we would get some Amorino Gelato because dessert is everything! We also have to check out Taste of Texas which has some of the best steak I have ever had. Once we get all the touristy stuff out during the week we would get ready for the weekend. We can start Friday with a happy hour at a rooftop bar like Sol7 and take some really cute pictures! Then we would go to dinner at a cute fancy spot like Lombardi Cucina and check out Segreto Lounge next door afterwards. Saturday brunch at Lucilles or Eunices is a must but dont try it without reservations because it gets packed! Then we can do a candle or perfume making class at Love and Make then rest so were ready for some night time activities. We can go to KAMP or O2 lounge if we want to club. But if we want something chill Id do Koya Houston or Ciel. Sunday has to start with church and then brunch afterwards at any chill brunch spot like the Toasted Coconut or Black Walnut Cafe. After that we would head over to Chapman and Kirby for Sunday Funday!! We can also grab some ice cream at Van Leeuwen.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my identical twin sister Nnena Nwafor who inspired the birth of our youtube channel- Ejima Nnena and Ngozi. Youtube is not for the faint hearted so it helps to have someone who understands the challenges that come with content creation and is equally committed to adding value as a creator as well.
