We had the good fortune of connecting with Paty Carballo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paty, what matters most to you?
A couple of principles that are very important to me are quality early education and the importance of knowing a second language. In today’s global world, being multi-lingual provides many educational and career opportunities. With many countries around the world teaching their children two and three languages, being multi-lingual is the future. The best time to introduce an additional language is in the early years of a child’s life. The sooner, the better!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
With 12 years as an Early Childhood educator, I knew that when it was time for my kids to go to preschool I wanted my kids to learn a new language and I couldn’t find preschool programs any that fulfilled my expectations. Because I was unable to find what I needed, I decided to open De Colores!. I saw that there was a need in the community for De Colores! and I wanted to offer a different way to teach kids and give them the opportunity to learn Spanish at the same time. There were times when being a business owner presented challenges. I think a lot parents to struggle with work and home life and for me, it’s been no different. Time management has been so important! Proudly, I can say that many kids from my program have had the opportunity to follow their education in Spanish after graduating from Kindergarten because they started with us at De Colores! Spanish Immersion Preschool and learn the foundation in a natural environment without them having Spanish as a first Language. My students, current and former, are enjoying opportunities to develop their language skills in dual language schools.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Houston is a big city and has many good places to choose from. From the north side, I will take my best friend to have brunch at The Kitchen, in The Woodlands. This is one of my favorite brunch spots. After a nice brunch, we’d tour the Waterway and enjoy some fresh air. For dinner, we’ll go to Belly of the Beast in Old Town Spring. Their food is so delicious and fresh. From there, we’d tour the shops in Old Town. Houston has amazing street art and the best way to see art and murals is for a bike ride through EADO, with plenty of pictures along the way, of course!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people in my life who most definitely deserve a shout out. First God, my daughters, husband, my abuela, my parents, siblings, and family: You’ve been my biggest support system. I am so thankful to have so many people who encourage and believe in my dream. To Isaias, thank you for always pushing me to bring the best of myself, for always believing in my dream, introducing new experiences, and for always reminding me that there are no limits to what can be accomplished with passion and love. Thank you for always encouraging me to follow my passions and being one of my biggest supporters and believers. Last but not least, I’d love to give a shout out to the amazing parents of my students! Without you, De Colores! Spanish Immersion Preschool would not be what it is today.
