Meet Richie Deegan | Austin, Texas artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Richie Deegan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Richie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I look at it as a calling from God. My aim is to make the best paintings I can to the best of my ability as an offering to God and as a reaction to the calling he has placed upon my life. I believe that in the way I discovered Vincent van Gogh’s art first then found out he was a man of faith, fans of my art will do the same and see that my faith drives it all and will find peace themselves. Whether that happens now or 100 years from now is not up to me. But I’m blessed to be part of this journey and plan.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from other artists of today is my lack of knowing what is trendy or trending in the art world. To a fault I’m going to paint what I want to paint even if it’s not considered hip or cool. These canvases are journal entries and while I hope people like what they see and I love when they sell, I’m not worried about what the art world at-large thinks at all. Ok I’m a little worried as it would be nice if my banana taped to a wall sold for millions

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I have to thank my beautiful wife, Tatjana. Without her full support and unending loyalty I would be delivering pizzas still. Which I didn’t mind and it’s noble work but I have much more fun painting.
