Meet Robert Torres | Real Estate Broker, Invester, Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robert, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thinking was that establishing a business would be the means to support the investment in the real estate it occupies; making the investment self-supporting (AKA it pays for itself). In the end, the business is secondary to the ownership of the property itself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I realized that I kept seeing opportunity that many of my peers were blind to, the lightbulb lit up one day. In an effort to be as knowledgable as possible for my clients, I knew it would be necessary for me to learn the business and financial aspects of brokerage versus the salesmanship. Whereas most just try to sell you something, I understand the real value of property, and how it relates to the market. Was it easy? To those who enjoy the process of learning, yes. It felt like it was a hobby that I got paid to do; and 39 years later, it still does. The most important lesson I learned along the way is to not fear your knowledge and good judgement in deciding to invest. It’s important that people know that it’s not a secret to success. There are opportunities that are accessible and available to all of us willing to take a calculated risk. In building wealth and equity, you’re building security for yourself and generations after you. THAT is what is important.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so much to see and do in city of Houston. I would look for live music performances and shows in the Theatre District. There are also very fine bars and restaurants in the Montrose and River Oaks areas. And don’t be scared to try the hidden gems that only a few people know. Those are often the best experiences.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother, who was a real estate broker. introduced me to the real estate industry. Throughout my upbringing, she taught us general business and entreneurship. Her self-employment showed us the work ethic and involvement necessary to succeed in any business. Her financial mentorship was essential to me navigating my own finances much later in life, as a good credit history and savings are vital.
