Meet Sabrina Cavazos | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Cavazos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabrina, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I’m always pushing back self doubt and reminding myself all my artwork pieces are my heart and different eras of my life. It’s intimidating to share with the world but I always come out meeting amazing, supportive people after art shows. I’m not where I want to be yet but I will always take the risk of sharing my art for future opportunities.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m proud that I allowed myself to share and be vulnerable with my artwork. It’s never easy to do but I want to push myself harder and further this year. I’m still learning and finding myself through different mediums but I’m always most excited to share creative moments with my daughter and see what I can include her in. I want people to connect with my art so I always say it’s whatever you see / feel / want it to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This was the toughest question. Nobody talks about best friend breakups and it has been painful to grieve a living person but we were always very chill together. We liked talking about books, cooking/ movie nights at home. I love the downtown night life and food trucks. The Houston interactive aquarium & animal preserve is probably my favorite place I’d recommend.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother deserves so much credit. I got all of my creative inspiration from her when I was younger doing school projects and even to this day with her sketches and portrait drawings. She bought my first canvas when I got into painting 5 years ago and has been supportive ever since. Women/ motherhood has 100% inspired all of my new work.
