We had the good fortune of connecting with Savannah Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Savannah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always been one to live by the saying “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.”. Being able to express creativity gives me the chance to forget about real life stress and focus on something fun. I have always loved anything to do with art or hands-on/creative learning, being an event florist is the best of both worlds!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started designing with flowers at my own wedding. I knew I couldn’t afford a florist at the time and I’m the type of person that if I need something done, I’m going to learn how to do it! I was hooked and decided the to go full time into events, I hit the ground running and booked 15 events my first year!
I think the hardest part of starting out for me was the lack of self confidence I had. It caused me undercharge and over-book my events because I felt that I needed to prove myself. I have definitely learned to not let people take advantage of your lack of confidence, and you always attract the right clients by staying true to yourself and your work.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the Rice Village area in Houston! Tiny Boxwoods has the best charcuterie boards around! I love a good shopping day at Highland Village. The Woodlands area is on my list for restaurants as well. Whiskey Cake for breakfast and my all time favorite, Pappasitos for dinner! Then I would visit Hughes Landing for some macarons and gelato by the water! I’m all about relaxing with a good treat.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely say my husband, Cameron has been the biggest support for me starting my business. From helping me at events to constructive criticism, he always encourages me when I need it and has stood beside me every step of the way!
