We had the good fortune of connecting with Seynabou Sow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Seynabou, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe it is my intrinsic motivation. I love seeing my customer satisfied with my products. I always take my time explaining the origin and the meaning behind each product.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have two kiosks in Katy Mills Mall and an online boutique. I am where I am today because of my work ethic and the support of my loved ones. It has been a long but rewarding road. It wasn’t easy in the beginning because I was trying to sell everything just like everybody else. But once I started focusing on what I know, African products, it became easy. I was born and raised in Senegal, West Africa so my products align with my culture and I am always excited to talk about my heritage. I have unique products from different parts of Africa at an affordable price and great quality.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is an ethnically diverse city with plenty to do. I love taking my guests to Kemah boardwalk, Moody Gardens, and NASA. However, when it comes to food, you will never go wrong with authentic Tex Mex restaurants. Also, I don’t mind taking them for a day trip to San Antonio to visit the Alamo and the Riverwalk. And for friends who like to explore, a trip to Herman Park is always rewarding not only it is close to downtown but there is a sense of community.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge shout-out to my wonderful daughters Fatou and Adja who help me endlessly day and night. Also, I want to take this opportunity to thank all my customers, friends and family who believe in me and my success.
