We had the good fortune of connecting with Shakelia Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shakelia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In the beginning, I wanted to start my own business as another savings account/rainy day fund for my family. I wanted to do something that would boost ones confidence as I’ve not always been confidence or felt pretty. Once started, I actually enjoyed what I was doing and saw that my products made a difference and made my customers SMILE.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
During the day, I work full-time as a Middle School Admissions Liaison. I have worked with the school district for over 12 years and absolutely love everything about my job. Like others, I started from the bottom and I’m nowhere near the top. This part is only a preview of what’s in store for me and I know that because of my drive and willingness to learn.
I get so excited to show up to work rocking my brand and seeing my co-workers rocking it as well. It makes your heart smile to know that yet another person believes in you and doesn’t mind supporting you. My brand is my lifeline, it helps me work on confidence, speaking and building relationships and I don’t know what the future holds for Klassy Jewels but I know this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So… I LOVE to shop just as much as I love to eat so our main stops would be the mall, fine dining and most definitely the beach. I love the idea of getting dressed up and going out to dinner. Put on your best fit, your favorite perfume, Klassy Jewels accessories and handbag and let’s GO!!
Also, the beach is a must! I love the water and the fresh air, Being that I’m a Cancer, the water is of course my happy place. I just love to laugh and have fun and the beach is definitely the place to do that.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh wow, I don’t have anyone specific that deserves more credit than the other because I have an entire village that supported my journey. I do have one special friend that does deserve a huge THANK YOU though because I was never the girl that would wear jewelry and every time we were together, she would ask where my earrings were and made me put a pair on (LOL) so thank you N.T.! But after being called out so many times, It became second nature and once I decided to venture out into the world of jewelry and accessories, my close family and friends were all on board.
