We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharen Tippit and J’Tika Tenas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sharen Tippit and J’Tika Tenas, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Dream big with your eyes wide open. This has been a staple quote for years. For us, Dreaming with your eyes wide-open only means that you now are willing to see what others can’t imagine. With your eyes wide open you can take the initiative to bring your dreams full circle. You are willing to throw away the excuses, make the necessary sacrifices, and do what’s needed to see it come to pass. This quote is also the beauty behind “The Pop Kulture Popcorn Bar.”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We both have demanding professional careers outside of the business. We are definitely overly excited about starting this journey into entrepreneurship together as a team creating products to share with our customers. We aren’t where we want to be as of now and their is definitely room for more growth however we got to this point professionally by trusting God, having faith while taking risks. This was not an easy task especially when you are investing time your barely have and most importantly money especially when launching a business during a pandemic. We have definitely learned so many lessons along the way. Some good and some bad. We consider them blessings because each and everyone of them we have definitely grown from. This wasn’t just something we woke up and started this business was built from the ground up from a family legacy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston has so many hot spots and not to mention hidden gems. We would visit places like The Breakfast Klub for breakfast, The Turkey Leg Hut for lunch, and dinner at Lost and Found. We would probably enjoy a little laid back night session for drinks and hookah at The Local Seat. Just to name a few.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our business is centered around God first, so shout out to the man above for foreseeing this vision turned reality. God deserves all this recognition and more. Lastly, is more so a dedication to my late Great Grandmother Leona Jones-Starks The reason behind the business idea. She ran the same business when I was a little girl and it was a huge success within the community. I see myself in her on a daily. The hustle, the grind, the ambition, the drive, the constant praying when things look good or bad, just everything!
