We had the good fortune of connecting with SHWANDA FREEMAN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi SHWANDA, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
People don’t understand all the rules in this industry, and these misunderstandings can become costly financially.
Example how long do one have to transfer a title? Alot of people feel like if the tags are good then they just ride on them tags until they expire….. wrong.
You have 30 days to transfer a vehicle once purchased from an individual after 30 days there’s a $25 penalty for every 30 days you don’t transfer.
So if you buy it in June and the tags go out in December so you wait till then to transfer, that will cost you $100 in penalties wasted money.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from others? I am brutally honest and customers love that. I’m going to tell you truth doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad.
What am I most proud of/ or excited about? I’m proud of my name aka title lady, people see me on the street they be like hey title lady….. im known to be very knowledgeable with title and I’m told if I can’t do it and may can’t be done.
How did I get here? I started my business with very little and just me I was the business, now I have 3 employees and a host of friends and family that assist me. Who knew I would still be in business 11 years later?
Was it easy? No, anything worth having is worth working and waiting for. I get up and make the best of what in have daily. I change with change because growth doesn’t stand still.
You will not get everything done in one day.

My story is simple, I discovered me and what I can really do while being unemployed. It’s funny how your brain works, one minute you thinking oh lord what am I going to do? How can I make it?
Then you are planted with an idea that changes your entire thought process. Life is what you make believe it or not we control what we really want. I treat people in the manner I want to be treated, I have no hidden agenda and I have fun daily.
I run my business with that same thought process,

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
After losing my job of 15 years in 2008, I had no clue to what I was going to do. 2008 if anyone can recall was a horrible year for the economy. I found temp work here and there in the same field of work but nothing rewarding on personal level nor financial level.
I worked in Fleet for 15 years, processing titles, registrations for all kinds of moving equipment. So I had a lot of knowledge of the process.
A close friend of mine Derrick Bass, was buying and selling cars and asked me to help him with the title work, I was ok no problem, in return he paid me which was nice and needed at time.
He then told me you know you can make some money doing this, I was like what? How? He was like I don’t know the details but do some research there’s a license you can get to do this.
And that’s what I did, started doing some research. I found out how to get the license, and started my business in 2010 and Freemans Auto Title Plus have been going strong ever since.
So my ShoutOut goes to Derrick Bass he planted the seed that has really grown to be very rewarding.
