We had the good fortune of connecting with Steve Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steve, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Really just always wanted a clothing brand honestly, but that I could buy my lifestyle into it and be about what I go threw in my actual job as a blue collar worker..father and man.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So I’m a blue collar worker ..I’m a machine operator for an asphalt company. I’ve been with lone star paving for almost 8 years. It’s not for everyone but we get the job done. When I’m not doing that I’m hustling my side business Texas Bearded Cartel, wich is a clothing brand since 2017. We make hats, koozies, rings, t-shirts stickers etc. We have a big following and beautiful support all over. The process of having a brand is you gotta hustle man. Patience is the key and just hustle! Challenges I’ve had to overcome is sitting on merch if it does not sell..But making merch that sells and people like will sell..just need to know what sells. But big lessens ive learned is everybody ain’t your friend man. I just want people to know my brand will always be different and always keep the chingon gear coming. I’ve done a lot already with it just know you won’t see another one out there like mine.. we make rings that come from califas and nobody in the game is doing that right now.. well at least in Texas.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Shit man I love Florida… destin florida and miami it bad ass. Shit all them fried chicken places here in San Antonio are great..Yup I love fried chicken it is my favorite. Shit around here we drink that Lone Star state beer..Lone Star beer man that’s the my go to beer all day. THE HOMIES and I love to hang out on the southside of San Antonio of course where I’m from.. Good ole place called The Aquaduck beer garden..Where I runs events vendors and do my annualy Chingon festival. Great place..food and drinks.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So I’ve done some cool shit with the brand since early 2017..Just doing research on how to go with it..bring it to life push it out there..I would have to say my good homie and partner Joey de los Santos (Supafly) killer entrepreneur from San Antonio tx. He’s been doing the clothing business since 1993. Always loved what he did and style he put out..Big O.G. In the game, shit he was the first person to bring and show tribal gear to San Antonio back in the day. Big hitter I’ll say man..bad ass dude and mentor. But also my parents and my kids man..beautiful gf Daniela’ as well. They keep me rolling these days with out them and their support I’d be nothing. And
