We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanya S. Kelker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanya, what do you attribute your success to?
When I really think about the driving forces behind my success and that of my brand, the most important factor comes down to honor. The word honor at its core means to hold at great respect. At both my Day Spa and within the corporation of my accounting and business strategy firm the core mission is to ensure that our client’s experience is THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER. We make it our business to honor our word with our clients, to anticipate their needs, to always do what is right, and to treat everyone fair and with respect.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Well I dwell in a healthy balance between two very different industries that happen to mesh together very well in my situation. I am a licensed beauty professional that owns and operates a 7 figure income generating beauty studio where I built a team that I manage and I only serve as CEO and trainer. And I happen to also be an accountant that empowers beauty business owners to transition their mindsets from working exclusively inside of their business to the CEO position with the help of implementing systems, tools, and a team. Because I no longer service clients personally on the esthetics side, I focus my time within my business to teach what I have built to other beauty business owners. I think this sets me apart from others in the beauty coaching, speaking and mentoring arena because I come with more than just theory. I actually built from the ground up what I teach my clients to do and I have actually achieved what alot of my clients want to achieve. So I understand their roadblocks, navigate a little better and help them get where they are trying to go faster and without the issues I came across.
I started out with my accounting and business strategy firm back in 2010. I opened my spa in 2017 just as a case study to show potential clients that what I was teaching actually works. However, I think one of the biggest lessons I learned was while I thought I was just doing a case study, I found a whole passion. I found purposeful work and I understood that me opening my studio wasn’t about the case study at all. What I found out was I was creating a blueprint to change the lives and the standard of how beauty professionals looked at business and opportunity as a whole. But what I think I am most proud of is being able to give entrepreneur opportunities to my team that never even considered it an option.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So Im a spa, Foodie, and chill friend so Im most definitely having my friend stay at an amazing hotel preferably one that has all the amenities, like hotel ZaZa, Four Seasons or Post Oak. That way we can definitely have a spa day there. We have to grab brunch at Backstreet cafe, we have to Turkey Leg Hut, we also have to go to get oysters.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to first thank God, I know that is cliché but, seriously he deserves all honor because it was and is all him that I owe my success to.
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my Husband Christopher and my three boys that have supported me while I made sacrifices that sometimes meant taking time from them in order to grow and build a dream to support our future. They never complained and always are willing to help in what ever way possible.
Secondly I would like to shoutout my Body Party Wax and Beauty Studios Team, they are so amazingly talented, supportive, and awesome people. Without them I could not have executed my vision out and I thank them for allowing me to lead them even when I fell short, they held strong to allow me to correct the situation and come back stronger.
Next I would like to thank one of my coaches, Candace Holyfield for always speaking life in me and leading by example and paving a way for women like me in this industry to thrive and what community looks like.
Lastly I would like to thank all of my clients that believed in the vision, support the vision and me.
