We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiana Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiana, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
The quote that I apply most often in my daily life is from the poet Maya Angelou, “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” To me, this means that whatever you do in your life or your career, do it with purpose and love it.

What should our readers know about your business?
Tending 2 U is dedicated to making every experience one to remember. We pride ourselves on our experience, professionalism, and providing overall satisfaction. We emphasize being organized and giving attention to detail. I think without those elements, running a business could easily become overwhelming. Also, it’s important to understand your audience and be creative. Have your own voice – this will help you to stand out in your respective industry. Your unique ideas represent you. Emphasize them and show your passion through your craft. I have learned not to compare my company and what we do with the next company. Above all, I want Tending 2 U to be a household name. We focus on excellence in all that we do for our clients. It feels great knowing that we can play a part in making their event memorable. And I want to be clear – It isn’t easy – and that’s the beauty of it. If it was easy anyone could do it. But I welcome the challenge. I know that in the end, with Tending 2 U, we’re creating something beautiful, not just for our clients but also for our city and ourselves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Everyone has to eat, right? Food takes me to my happy place and breakfast is the most important meal of the day for me. So, we would start by going to The Breakfast Klub, which is a black-owned spot in Houston. I would suggest ordering fried catfish and grits or chicken and waffles. Next, we would go shopping at The Galleria. After we have shopped until we dropped, we’d go watch a game and then have lunch and a drink at Lucky’s Pub downtown. I’m originally from Philly and I can’t find a good cheesesteak here in the city, so I get the next best thing. Lucky’s has amazing cheesesteak egg rolls. To close out the evening, we would dance the night away at Kung Fu Saloon off of Washington. This city has so much to offer, especially in terms of food, music, and fun. Every day I’m discovering a new place! There is a rich mix of cultural influences, which I think sets Houston apart from other cities. Some of my favorite places to eat are Cool Runnings – they have amazing jerk chicken, Mikki’s has THE best soul food and the Flat has delicious pizza, frozen mojitos, and a dope DJs spinning.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, Tending 2 U couldn’t be what it is without our dedicated staff. My company started out just as an idea. Once it came to life, our team helped to elevate every part of it. They put their all into the events that we work and it is reflected in the satisfaction of our clients. Second, I would shoutout our clients. There are many other event service options out there. But our clients choose us. And I am forever grateful for that. And finally, I want to shoutout my business partner and boyfriend, Marcus. He has been there every step of the way, weathering the most stressful and the good times with me.
