We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler & Hope Abbey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler & Hope, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting this new business on top of already running another business took much thought. Tyler works a full time job and I have a photography business as well but when the idea of a Bed & Breakfast came to mind it was something we couldn’t wait to pursue. We love to entertain and hosting has always been a love of mine. So Bed & Breakfast it was! This was something we planned ahead of time and giving it time to grow so I’m able to stay home with our future kids and still do what I love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We went into this business venture excited to host guests in a tranquil environment where they can escape from everyday life. Being open for two years now we are gradually growing and hoping to expand our piece of heaven on earth to small weddings and events. Although we are still very early in the planning stages we are excited for what could be in the near future. Being young entrepreneurs we had a lot to think about in the planning stages. The risk of investing into a venture that is off the beaten path was something we had to take into consideration. But with a vision , prayer and hard work we are slowly building a market for our little B&B. Lessons we have learned along the way is patience. Opening any type of business takes time to build a customer base. We want our brand to express the simplicity of life and take time to slow down, smell the flowers, and recharge.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
The idea for our bed and breakfast was for one to come relax and decompress for the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The small kitchenette is there for anyone to cook a meal to enjoy out on the porch overlooking the small pond. I would recommend guest to visit the local farmers market where you can find locally grown seasonal veggies. Or take a trip to one of the local organic beef, chicken, and pork farms. You will also find that our town offers antique stores, coffee shops and scenic hiking trails as well as a couple local wineries. We are located 26 miles from Lake Livingston and 57 miles from Lake Sam Rayburn, two of Texas’ larger lakes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would love to send a shout out to both of our families for supporting our venture ideas and for helping us in any way possible! They have been there to give advice when needed and just all around support.
