Meet Vanillaaíday Carter | Modeling & Pageantry

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanillaaíday Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi VanillaAíday, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is authenticity. Everything I do is rooted in a deep connection to who I am and what I stand for; whether it’s breaking barriers as an African American woman of trans experience in pageantry, modeling, or being a micro influencer. I’ve built my brand by embracing my uniqueness, sharing my story, and staying true to my values of representation, resilience, and creativity.
Beyond that, it’s also about the community I’ve cultivated, people who see themselves in my journey, who feel empowered by the spaces I’m opening, and who celebrate the bold, feminine, and fearless energy I bring to every project. I’m intentional about being a bridge for others while staying unapologetically myself, and I think that authenticity resonates deeply with my audience.
Lastly, I’d say gratitude and adaptability have been my pillars. From walking the runway to collaborating with major brands, every opportunity feels like history in the making, and I pour my heart into honoring those moments while always being ready for the next challenge. Success to me is about more than personal milestones; it’s about inspiring others to see what’s possible.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a reflection of bold self-expression, unapologetic authenticity, and the power of representation. Being a model is more than being a pretty face. It’s about telling a story, and or let me rephrase that; “selling a story”. Whether I’m walking the runway, gracing the pages of magazines, or creating content as a micro influencer, my work is rooted in breaking barriers and celebrating individuality. What sets me apart is my unique perspective of life as an African American woman of trans experience in spaces where people like me are often underrepresented & unappreciated. I use my platforms to amplify muted voices, opinions & stories. From myself & others. We have to tell stories that matter, and inspire others to embrace their fullest selves.
One of the moments I’m most proud of is becoming the first African American trans woman to compete in the Miss Washington USA system. Where I placed as a semi-finalist & won the “Miss. Congeniality” award!! It wasn’t just about me, it was about creating a legacy for others to follow. Another highlight was being featured in VOGUE MX & LA Times during Los Angeles Swim Week and being scouted by my first agency in the most serendipitous way. These milestones remind me that my journey isn’t just about success; it’s about rewriting narratives. And really chasing my dreams aggressively.
Let me remind you, getting here hasn’t been easy by any means. I’ve faced doubt, rejection, and the pressure to conform to expectations that didn’t align with who I am. But I overcame those challenges by leaning into my resilience, surrounding myself with a strong support system, and staying true to my vision. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that authenticity is your greatest asset; it’s what draws people in and sets you apart. Authenticity is acceptance.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I’m here to leave a mark; not just for myself but for everyone who has ever felt unseen. My story is about celebrating beauty in all its forms, embracing individuality, and showing the world that we are limitless when we dare to dream big and step into our power.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting, & had never been to Seattle I’d craft the ultimate mix of fun, food, and unforgettable vibes! We’d start the week with brunch at Tilikum Place Café, then head to Pike Place Market to explore the iconic stalls and grab fresh flowers. For a dose of culture, we’d visit the Seattle Art Museum and finish the day with rooftop drinks at The Nest, overlooking the waterfront.
Midweek, we’d take a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island for some boutique shopping and wine tasting. Back in the city, we’d hit Capitol Hill for dinner at FERN a delicious Thai Food restaurant, and then catch a show at Neumos; JK, we’re going to Queer Bar or The Cuff for an amazing night of dancing & impeccable drag!!
To wrap up the trip, we’d hike at Rattlesnake Ledge for stunning views, then treat ourselves to a fancy dinner at Canlis. We’d finish the week with karaoke at Rock Box, surrounded by good vibes and lasting memories. Seattle’s mix of nature, culture, and nightlife makes it the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable week!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly!! My journey wouldn’t be what it is without the love, guidance, and support of so many incredible people and communities. First and foremost, I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my best friend, Jaylen Potter; he can be spotted in almost every other photo on my IG *@vanillaaiday.carter* He’s been my rock, my sounding board, shoulder to cry on, confidant, and my constant source of encouragement. Whether I’m celebrating a win or navigating a challenge, his belief in me has been unwavering.
I also want to recognize someone whose come a littler later on in my life; my sister Felomina *Fel*, she may not be blood, but boy does it feel like I’ve known her my whole life! She’s someone who has always reminded me of the power of family blood or not and staying grounded. And of course, I have immense gratitude for my some community members who are mentors, even if they don’t know it, lol Those lovely individuals are Roger, Cesar, and even Nat; I just met her this last year & have recently worked with her when I competed in Miss. International Queen, they’ve all had a tremendous impact on my growth. They’re who trust me as a coach and model on & off the runway and helped me truly find my voice in this industry for myself. And help remind me to always stay true to myself. And be as unapologetic as possible.
Finally, I owe so much to my community, the Black and trans communities, as well as every single person who has ever cheered for me, believed in my vision, or felt inspired by my story. So basically the whole community!!!! They’re the heartbeat of everything I do, and their support motivates me to keep pushing boundaries and creating space for us & others a like to shine.
