We had the good fortune of connecting with VENISHIA MARTHREL and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi VENISHIA, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Initially, I thoguht I wanted to create a brand that no one else could control. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset, so the creative thought pattern has always been there. I’ve worked in a lot of different areas, but entrepreneurship is definitely the most confortable realm for me. Moods By Monet was created so that I could live a more free and creative lifestyle, while helping others along the way.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born a creative, I believe that is what sets me apart from others. I’ve always excelled exceptionally throughout my educational and professiomnal life, but I’ve always had a hunger for creating. What makes me most proud about being an artist and creator, is the ability to shape my own future. Being a creative person isn’t easy, and comes with lots of skepticism and judgement. There is a security in working a 9-5 job that most don’t think exsists in entrepreneurship. I’ve learned that being a creative allows you the freedom to create your own security, and even help others do the same.
Moods By Monet is an aromatherpy wellness brand. It represents intentional living, mindfulness, and healthy mental health practices. It encompasses all of the lessons and blessings I’ve acquired throughout life, and passes them on to others in the form of aromatherpy products and wellness services.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would spend as much time outdoors as possible. I love Hermann Park, Discovery Green, and many of the other outdoor areas Houston has to offer. I’d love to catch a show at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. I’d definitely stop by one of the local black owned resturants in 3rd Ward to start us off. There are also a few dope vegan spots in 3rd Ward that I love too, such as Green Seed. We’d spend tons of time going to yoga and eating clean food.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout all the many teachers, counselors, family friends, and loved ones who have helped me along the way. I was born and raised in Flint, MI., with numerous odds stacked against me, but because of the people placed on my path, I am here today.
