By far, the topic that comes up most in our conversations with entrepreneurs and creatives is risk. We’ve had conversations about risks that worked out and risks that did not. I think risk taking is incredibly important in business. All of the risks/steps out of my comfort zone are what have helped me “fail”, grow, or learn. I put fail in quotation marks because you can’t really learn from your mistakes and grow if you don’t ever fail. I think about a few years ago when I was just starting to take my business seriously, I made it one of my goals to push myself and take risks. I invested in my first studio rental for holiday minis that year and while I didn’t book it out, I had some of my first studio sessions ever and they weren’t perfect but I have learned and grown so much from those experiences. The word “risk” may be daunting to some, but to me, it’s almost humorous. My entire life, particularly in the music industry, has revolved around taking risks. For example, when I started DJing at 13 or 14, I would sneak into clubs with my uncle, who was a DJ at the time, to help him carry the crates. If I had been caught, the club likely would have closed.
