We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Ayala and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Goal setting has been a huge part of my life. I’m constantly examining areas where I can improve and strengthen within myself, relationships, career, as a mom, and so on. Re-examining these areas from time to time and making slight pivots to work towards change helps me to not stay stagnant in key areas of my life. This includes investing time, energy, or money into things that will serve me reaching these goals. I’m frequently listening to podcasts, investing in courses, and absorbing material to better understand myself and strengthen those areas.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
After working as a family therapist for almost a decade, I realized that so many people came in with similar concerns. While the details varied, the overarching focus was “my child is struggling with this and I would like to know how to help them”. Furthermore, after I became a mom, the bar for how we engaged with our children was so high from other parenting resources. I absolutely knew in my heart that I could simplify parenting in a way that provided researched based information while making it palatable and relatable. I began the journey of creating articles, videos, IG reels, and even two online parenting courses to provide this accessible support to caregivers. One of the courses is priced at $5.55 because I never want there to be barriers to receive high quality information that can benefit families. Pouring all of this information into courses, which is the cornerstone of my business, helps parents fully understand their children and provide actionable and simple strategies to address them to create change. A roadmap to addressing the commonalities in therapy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are new to the Houston area and I have a running list of hot spots for my guests! I fully immersed myself in what the city has to offer and have fallen in love. One of my favorite daytime activities is to visit The Post during their vendor markets. I have meet amazing creators there who have very unique talents and products! We took my mom there for an event when she came to visit and she had a great time as well. We recently ate at La Colonial and I was completely blown away. The decor was beyond magical and I could not stop admiring the details they poured into this restaurant. The service, food, and even cocktails were above and beyond.
Finally, the sound healing meditation held at the cistern is one of my favorite “secrets” of the city. I’ve been 3 times and it never disappoints. The sound from the bowls echo from the aqueduct walls and penetrate into my bones leaving a calm and serene feeling

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Rob has never wavered from my side when it comes to supporting my entrepreneurial interests. When I first started The Modern Parent, he fully encouraged me to go for it and develop something close to my heart. It was a much needed outlet as a new mom, and I knew it would serve others. He would frequently ask if I needed time to write, create, or work on anything while he took the kids so I could do so in peace. Throughout TMP’s trajectory, Rob would share how proud he was of me and everything I’ve poured into this resource. There have been countless times I was low, felt like giving up, or stuck and he was the stable cheerleader in my court! I could not have continued to provide this service to others without him!
