We had the good fortune of connecting with Paula Bates and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paula, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Initially starting my own business wasn’t my plan. As I got older, I realized I didn’t always want to work for corporate and not leave a true legacy or foot print for my family. I’ve had a plethora of businesses however BRM- Home was the one that tugged my heart. I realized starting a business wouldn’t be easy, but it would be worth it. Once I realized what I wanted and how I wanted the business to be structured, I created a plan and went with it. I took my time and put all my effort forth.

What should our readers know about your business?
The journey to BRM-Home has been a short one so to speak. I started this business in 2022 as a hobby at home due to my family having respiratory issues with other scents and home products. For months, I worked on formulas, sourcing products and inventory. I wanted everything to be perfect until I realized being perfect wasn’t the solution. What sets us apart from others is that our products are eco- friendly, toxic free, we use wooden wicks as well a a unique blend of fragrance oils. What I’m most proud about is seeing customers reactions to smelling my products for the first time. I’m excited to have created products that leave a lasting impression and create new memories. Getting where I am today, was not easy, it’s a new world for me, so many first’s are happening for me, yet I’m thankful for the experience! Getting where I am today business-wise came with a lot of help and resources from other ladies in business. I overcame many challenges by taking them and using them as a lesson to grow from. I’ve learned to grow through everything, always do what’s best for the business and don’t be afraid to pivot!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m naturally a home body and they prefer my cooking anyway, especially some gumbo! I love good food when I find some, if we were to go somewhere it would be Spice Buddy Den & Grill in Pearland and get the H-Town Philly, and a margarita you won’t regret it!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, God gets all the glory, without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. My husband and son are my cheerleaders and daily encouragement to keep going. Their support is unmatched and I wouldn’t have it no other way. This shout out is for the “Bates Boys”
