We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyra Baxter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic career because creativity has always been rooted in me. From a very young age I have loved the freedom of creating. I believe it is my spiritual gift. Through my journey life has knocked me down, given me some stumbling blocks, and simply became tough. Regardless of the circumstance, creating art always brought me peace. Most of all, the act of using my art to serve others has been the ultimate win. It brings me so much joy to bring joy to others through my creations.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art comes from the heart! Whether it’s creating a home portrait for a fellow realtor as a closing gift, creating a pet portrait, or creating a piece for a dear friend who has lost someone. Every piece of art I create is intended to be a gift presented in love. My journey to where I am today as an artist and a real estate professional has not always been easy. I have faced challenges, stumbling blocks, bad choices, and even fear. I overcame and continue to overcome life’s adversities due to my relationship with God and my willingness to stand strong in hope for my future. The most important lesson I had to learn and continue to remind myself of even today is to choose myself, step out on faith, and trust God. Taking leaps out of your comfort zone is not at all easy but it is necessary to evolve, and to live out your life’s purpose. We only get one shot at life so why not make the best of it. I have worked a wide range of jobs in the administrative world from NASA, doctors offices, builder design centers, and even as a state licensed Art Teacher. All of those job roles have given me tools that have contributed to my current success as an accomplished Realtor and Artist.
When it comes to me I want the world to know me as a love. I want my brand and my in all my business ventures to communicate love, friendship, joy, light and excellence in service.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Thank God my best friend lives in the Houston area! However if she didn’t I and she was coming to town for a week vacation I would totally make it a week of relaxation, pampering, and a creative experience. We would start our relaxation out with massages, body scrubs, and visiting the different rooms at Spa World in Katy. We would have a day of shopping in the Baybrook Mall area where we would grab lunch at Whiskey Cake or Perry’s Steakhouse. We would venture down to Galveston, check out shops on the Strand, ride bikes on the seawall, and of course grab some seafood. Another day we would venture out to Sawyer Yards to check out the buildings of amazing art which may actually take a couple of days to experience. We would visit the local breweries, wineries, and lounges like The Blind Finch in Spring, TX. Indulging in food, drinks, music, art, and shopping is easy to do in and around Houston so we would be exhausted once her visit comes to an end.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people and experiences I could credit or even praise for my journey as an entrepreneur. However the one person who stands in the forefront is my sister. I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Tyson Garcia. She is a beautiful and remarkable woman who has without a shadow of a doubt my biggest fan. She has been dedicated to every phase of my journey, fully present with all of her heart, always present for my wins, and my losses. I’m grateful for all the love and support she showers on me. To have a sister like her is truly nothing short of a blessing.
