We had the good fortune of connecting with Safia Jafri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Safia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
In my line of work, the back bone of my business is my staff. Finding the right staff – whether teachers or admins is key to my business. I don’t always look for the staff that’s the most qualified on paper. It’s really important because my staff works with kids they should have a good attitude, be friendly, kind, and positive. I always feel that attracts good energy. Parents like seeing their kids happy when they come out of the classroom- whether the teacher gave them a friendly hug or a hi5 -that’s what makes them want to come to the center which subsequently helps me grow my business. Business usually is positive word-of-mouth which we get from satisfied clients who love our academic Math and English program .
What should our readers know about your business?
I feel what sets me apart from others is being able to see this program from a parent’s perspective. Before I became a business owner, I was a parent of a student attending a learning center, so I try to be sensitive to my parents’ needs- for example if they ask me to reschedule their child’s class, give them more work, less work etc- Recognizing the fact that every child is different and therefore their request is different, helps me become a more empathetic center director.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is a famous city for a lot of different age groups and interests. Friends that are interested in eating, drinking we would ask their preference of cuisine whether it’s Indian ( Hilcroft area) Chinese, Thai food, American (Town center in SugarLand , Downtown Houston) etc. Downtown Houston also has a museum district with several museums for people of every age group and interests People- more interested in outdoor life Galveston/ Pleasure Pier is a great place to spend the day and the coast has some of the best seafood restaurants in the city
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my success to all my colleagues at Eye level in Houston and the surrounding areas and all my corporate staff up in Dallas and New Jersey.
