We had the good fortune of connecting with Myke Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Myke, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had always had a passion for music. I sang in the church as a child, classically trained in shcool and at 14 my parents got me a guitar for christmas. i continued to perform until i joined the Navy performing at local Venues. After leaving the Navy as a young man I went to work in the refinaries while continuing to perform on the weekends whenever possible. All that performing showed me one thing. if you wanna perform 90% of your shows will be in bars. I wanted to change that and be more inclusive to the amount nad types of live music we brought to the public

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, Im a Singer Songwritter and im not restricted by genre or a particular “sound”. My life is the basis for my music and creativity. If im upset a popy genere and sound just wont do, nor will a blues convey a feeling of confidence. my songs are about my life experience. they say write what you know.

Its been a tough go at it. There is a ton of competetion in my Field and not everyone is as friendly as willing to collaborate as i am. constantly being preyed upon by talent buyers, bookers, and so called agents. Fellow artists undercuttin your rates driving prices down making it extremely difficult to be paid properly for you skill and time.

I’ve learnd just like any business you show up early, anticipate the needs of your client, stay professional and give every show you 100% that you have to give that day. Yes its a show but its also an audition for the next show and eventhough its you out there on stage its not about you its really about the crowd.

My Brand is this: Music for the Masses and giving the next artist a platform to reach the masses.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well Houston is such a huge City with so many things to do. Im a Music guy so id definitely hit up a show if i were entertaing guests. Id start off with Dinner at Ceder Creek in the Heights, for drinks id go somewhere fun like LeiaLows Somoan Pub, or hit any of the spots that pepper midtown. for the main attraction House of Blues if the band is favorable that night. if we want something more local its a toss up between Scout Bar, White oak Music Hall, or SKy Bar.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Obvioulsy any and every person ive ever shared the Stage with. Keira Michelle whom ive never had the opportunity to meet in person offered so very helpful guidance to help me transition from the old guard to the new guard as far as the music business is. learning how to utilize Social Media to really push myself and artists I work with
