Meet Benx | Master Basketball Shooting Coach & Consultant

We were lucky to have a chance to talk with Benx, a top basketball shooting coach and consultant. In our conversation, he shares his journey, coaching approach, and how he’s helped athletes and coaches succeed. We’re excited to share his story with you below
Hi BenX, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to do what I love while having the freedom to work on my own terms. I felt I had something valuable to share—a service that could make a difference and also provide for my family. Plus, I thought about creating something long-lasting, something my kids could take over and benefit from in the future.

What should our readers know about your business?
They say necessity is the mother of invention, but I believe desire is the father of
invention. Over 30 years ago, I noticed a need for specialized basketball training. That need inspired me to share my knowledge of the game and teach others. It all started with a passion to help players grow, and that passion continues to guide my business today.
Today, I don’t think much has changed at the fundamental level, but everything moves so much faster now. I started my business as PBT—Personal Basketball Training. I was nervous, but I created a plan and stuck to it. Right away, I realized that the time commitment required to run a business is far greater than working for a company or someone else.
One of the hardest challenges was having to handle everything on my own. At the time, I didn’t fully understand my unique ability. I knew I was different, but I didn’t grasp just how significant my approach was. Over time, I developed a systematic method for sports training. I even copyrighted my 4 Principles of Sports Training and the 4 Foundations of Athletic Workouts.
These principles were a game changer—not just for me, but also for helping clients retain what they learned in training and apply it successfully in game situations. I also discovered that these methods helped stabilize the trainers I hired to work for my company, making the system even more effective.
Today, my company is called BenX Sports Technology. We specialize in consulting, a data-backed training system, and providing unique access to me through speaking engagements, camps, clinics, and exclusive training sessions. Our current project is providing the NBA 2025 Pre-Draft in the city of Houston! We already have commitments from Houston greats such as, Cynthia Cooper and Steve Francis!
What I love most about my work is seeing the smiles on my clients’ faces when they see the results of their hard work. It’s incredibly rewarding to know I’ve developed a system that empowers other coaches, trainers, and especially parents to better communicate, train, coach, and teach athletes. Being able to do what I love for over 30 years is a testament to the success of my unique ability.
Over the years, I’ve learned so many lessons. One of the most important is recognizing the difference between teaching and learning. If my clients aren’t learning, then I’m not truly teaching. Everyone learns differently, so I’ve made it a priority to adjust my teaching methods to fit each client’s unique style.
Another key lesson I’ve learned is to never stop believing. We all have so much to give, and if we truly believe in our potential, incredible things can happen.
My brand has reached audiences all over the world. I’ve been hired by some of the greatest athletes and business leaders, and I continue to gain valuable knowledge and wisdom every day. My goal now is to use all that I’ve learned to serve others and help them achieve their own success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d start with breakfast at the Breakfast Klub! I would take them to church at The R.O.C.K. WOI,, with Apostle Dr. Dana Carson. We’d get a workout at LJ Performance and have dinner at Bungalows for some great steak. I’d also take them to visit NASA, catch a Rockets game, and do some shopping at the Galleria Mall. For nightlife, we’d check reach out to IKEM from Indmix for some fun adventures.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a big shoutout to my wife, Krystle Rose. She’s my true partner and
has always supported me in following God’s purpose and plan without hesitation. Words can’t express how much I love her. I’d also like to highlight two books that have had a big impact on me: Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun?, which helped me realize I wasn’t alone in my journey and that being different is a strength, and 10x Is Easier Than 2x, which perfectly captures the mindset I embrace in everything I do in business.
