Meet Heather Armijo | Newborn & Maternity Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Armijo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The most important decision I made that contributed to my success as a photographer was deciding to specialize in newborns and focusing my time, education and budget into this area, right from the start. I knew that to deliver exceptional results, I needed to learn and understand the safety, posing techniques, and newborn-specific needs that come with capturing those precious moments. I spent time learning from experienced professionals, attended workshops, and invested in props and gear to ensure my clients received the best experience and photos possible. This commitment to learning and quality has definitely been a game-changer in building trust and growing my business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Thank you for the opportunity to share! My newborn photography business is built on a deep passion for capturing those fleeting, precious moments and being apart of that special time that surrounds bringing a new baby home. What truly sets me apart is the personalized experience I offer each family. From the initial email to receiving their final images, I strive to create an environment where my clients feel at ease, knowing their newborn is in safe hands.
I’m incredibly proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients. The fact that families come to me not just for beautiful photos, but for the peace of mind and attention to detail I offer, is something I continually strive for. I’m also excited about how my business has grown, not just in the number of clients, but in the relationships I’ve built along the way. The connections I’ve made with parents, and being part of such an intimate moment in their lives, is truly rewarding.
Getting here wasn’t easy. In the beginning, there were a lot of late nights learning the technical side of photography, figuring out business logistics, and marketing myself in a competitive field. But what helped me push through was my determination, and the support of the community in each and every client I have photographed.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that growth doesn’t happen overnight. It’s about consistently putting in the work, learning from each experience, and always being open to improving and shifting within my business. I’ve also learned to trust my instincts. As a business owner, it’s easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing, but I’ve found that staying true to my vision has brought me and my clients, the most fulfillment.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that it’s built on care, quality, and a genuine love for what I do. I’m not just capturing photos; I’m preserving memories. My business isn’t about just taking pictures—it’s about giving families a way to look back on the first moments of their child’s life, to feel those emotions again, even years later. It’s an honor to play a part in that, and that’s what I hope to continue for many years to come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, I’d be so excited to show my best friend around Katy, Texas! There’s so much charm here—it’s a great mix of small-town vibes with some fun spots to check out.
Morning: Let’s grab breakfast at Harvest Kitchen& Bakery, a charming spot serving up delicious pastries, coffee, and breakfast dishes.
Mid-Morning: Head to Fulshear Farmer’s Market to walk and browse a wide selection of vendors.
Lunch: For lunch, we’ll swing by Texas Border’s Pin Oak for crawfish and delicious wings, not to mention, the friendliest atmosphere there is!
Afternoon: If my friend is into craft beer, we’ll stop by Katy’s own No Label Brewing Co. to try some locally brewed beers and hang out on their outdoor patio. Then we can walk downtown Katy and check out several of the best antique shops in the area, all within walking distance.
Evening: For dinner, let’s check out Astor Farm to Table for exotic dishes in an elegant restaurant with great cocktails and wine.
