Meet Rebekah Vinyard: Owner/Designer of Rebekah Vinyard Jewelry

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekah Vinyard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebekah, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Balance is something I’m constantly chasing in all areas of my life. It often seems that once I feel like I’ve found some, everything changes or shifts and I have to reevaluate. 2020 was definitely a year of reevaluation, and I know I’m not the only one. When I first started my business, I had two very small children (one and three) and a husband who worked full-time. I had to squeeze in work during naptimes, on the weekends, and in the evenings. I felt like I never got a break. Things changed slowly over time and we found a beautiful balance in our family that seemed to last for a long time. Last year, my business took a hit, and with it our balance. But that’s the way it goes. We’re learning how to rebuild and reevaluate what’s important and balance is always at the forefront of my mind.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love to design! Not just jewelry, anything. But jewelry caught my eye early on and I’ve never looked back. My style has evolved over the years and I hope it will continue to do so. But through it all, there has been an element of geometry and architecture that has remained a key component in all of my designs. It’s taken many years and lots of hard lessons to build a business as an artist. The biggest challenge for me was convincing myself that I could learn how to run a business. As someone who had only ever placed value on my artist abilities, it was a hard mindset to change. But once I realized I could and should ask for help everything shifted.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people have encouraged, mentored, and cheered me on throughout this process! My favorite shop in Austin and one of the very first to carry my line is Parts and Labour. The owner, Lizelle, has always encouraged, advised, and pushed me while welcoming me into a family of other incredible local artists. Natalie Tischler, of Ornamental Things, is my big sister in business. Ever since I met her many years ago, she has been willing to share all her knowledge and experience with me. She’s an inspiration and someone I’m so grateful to call a friend. My actual sister is my biggest cheerleader! She’s always been in my corner and selflessly given so much of her time to help me with my business.
