We had the good fortune of connecting with Liliana Olmos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liliana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I remember since I was little I have always wanted to have my own business, it was my dream. I studied and graduated from finance but it wasn’t really me, I consider my self a creative person. So with the support of my parents and experience of my uncle, I started studying Jewelry and felt in love with it specially with this unique filigree technique. It’s been 15 years since I started and I’m glad at one point in my life I took that turn and choose what I really was passionate about. It’s been almost 10 years since I moved to the States and started my business here, I was full of dreams and goals that I can say I’ve been slowly accomplished it.Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So, I make intricate, unique jewelry. Every piece in the Olmox Jewelry collection has been carefully handcrafted from tiny beads and super fine threads of gold and silver. To achieve the beautiful scroll work and delicate lace-like patterns, precious metals silver and gold, first have to be hand spun into fine pliable threads. This is done by manually stretching the metal until it is fine enough to work into complex ornamental shapes. The thread is then twisted by hand into highly detailed floral motifs. Finally, with the help of a blowtorch, it is solders the design together at the points of contact to form beautiful and strong, jewelry pieces. I wouldn’t say it has been easy or difficult, it has been a work of dedication and persistence, because when you have clear goals you just work for it until you get them. I’m devoted to creating original fine filigree jewelry with the highest quality and care in hopes that my customers enjoy this art, that’s how I want to be recognized by customers.Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think is a must to visit all the international food scene that Houston has to offer, I would take them to Sweet Paris, Oporto or Roka Akor. Places to visit, Hermann park and all its surrounding, Downtown- Discovery green. If They want to shop local the heights has a lot of cute stores (and bakeries) and you can rent a bike that will take you to all these places is a win win exercise and food! right? The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
With no doubt about it, since day one, my parents! now 15 years later still my parents, my husband and my customers. My parents pushed me to always go after my dreams, They weren’t even mad at me when I decided to switch carear from finance to Jewelry making (I did graduated from finance). My husband has always giving me ideas on how to improve in every level, marketing, customer service, website, photos. And my customers, because without them I wouldn’t be here, I know it sounds cliche but is so true, I know customers that had been loyal to Olmox from day 1, and I can’t thank them enough.
